The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Bibliotherapy to enhance self-esteem of children in Low-Income Families.
An objects of this study was composed of 16 upper level elementary school children in Low-Income Families. And they were selected to experimental group and a control group by 8 children each group. It was carried out 60 minutes per time, twice a week, totally 10 times.
Coopersmith(1967) Child Self-Esteem Test was used to evaluate childrens self-esteem.
The data collected in this study was analyzed by SAS Statistics Package. With the use of Wilcoxon signed ranks test, the difference between the results before and after the program were investigated.
The conclusions of this study are as follow:
The experimental group improved more significantly on the entire self-esteem. It also helped the group increase their general self-esteem, social self-esteem, and the family self-esteem considerably. But there is no noticeable effect in the school self-esteem.
The conclusions of this study shall be provided the basic data to develop the effective programs of Bibliotherapy for children in low-income families as well as in middle-income families.
