승무 춤사위에 관한 분석연구 : 「본승무」중 염불과장을 중심으로

The aim of this study is to investigate the principles of
movement which exist in Buddhist dance(hereafter referred to as seungmu) by importing the theory of the royal dance. And there are to examine the theoretical relationship between seungmu and the royal dance.
In order to achieve this task, the significance and status of this dance investigated through search of relevant criterion. After that, through analysis of related criterion, the essential principles of the movement of seungmu were illuminated.
Since seungmu is divided and succeeded to kyonggi-ryu and honam-ryu, but this study is focused to kyonggi-ryu, in partcular Hanyeongsook-ryu(hereafter referred to as bon seungmu which I have learned.
Yeombul gwajang(stage) is consist of 6 units of maru, maru is composed of 6 units of jangdan, jangdan has 6 units of bakja. Bon seungmu is consist of totally 6 units of maru. The method of this study is to analyze the movement according to a unit of jangdan.
In the process of identifying the principles of movement found in seungmu, the following five aspects were observed and analyzed:
First, arm movement in the unit of yeombul.
Second, chumsawi between jeongse and Gwadose.
Third, Basic motion of the hand.
Fourth, the structure of the dance.
Fifth, the movement of the number of jangdan.
The major finding of the study is seungmu is not like seungmu which movement of dancer in each stage of the dance is diverse combination of patterns of jeongese and gwadose. I found that seungmu has essentially with all patterns and characteristics of Korean traditional dance. And the method of combination of the dance has an important influence on the physical development of human.
However, this research was limited due to the contemporary and partial aspects of seungmu. In the future, more comprehensive and systematic research into the principles of Korean dance is called for.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

지금까지 춤을 추어 오면서 많은 사람들은 한 번씩 이런 의문을 가져 봤을것이다. "이 춤의 원리는 무엇인가?" 하지만 춤의 외형적인 모방에만 치중하는 가운데 이러한 의문은 자연스럽게 사라져갔다. 어차피 무대위에서 춤만 잘 추면된다는 안일한 생각들이 실기위주의 교육현실을 초래하고 있는 지금 이 시점에서 우리는 춤의 이론적 확립이 얼마나 중요한가를 깨달아야 한다.
본인 역시도 지금까지는 겉으로 보이는 춤동작에만 치중하여 외형적인 기교의 습득만을 중요하게 생각해 왔다. 하지만 이번 기회를 계기로 “내가 지금추고 있는 춤은 과연 무엇인가”라는 의구심을 갖게 되었고 이를 집중 연구 분석하게 되었다. 춤을 추어 오면서 가치 있는 여러 종류의 춤들을 배웠지만 그 중에서도 춤의 모태라 할 수 있는 승무의 "염불"과장 연구에 제한점을 두고 이를 집중 분석 하였다.특히 승무는 경기류와 호남류로 크게 나뉘어 계승되고 있지만 본인이 전수받고 있는 경기류 <한영숙류-본승무->를 연구 대상으로 하였고 궁중무용의 이론을 도입하여 서로 어떤 이론적 연관성이 있는가에 대해서도 조사해 보았다. 염불은 여섯 마루로 이루어져 있는데 한 마루당 여섯 장단을 가지고 있고 한 장 단에는 여섯 박자가 들어있다. 이 <본승무>의 염불은 총 여섯 마루로 이루어져 있으며 여기에 포함된 각 장단에 따른 동작분석을 통해 다각도로 연구하고자 하였다.

둘째, 춤사위-정세와 과도세-에 관한 분석
셋째, 기본수법 분석
넷째, 춤의 구조에 관한 분석
다섯째, 장단수에 관한 움직임 분석
위와 같은 경로를 통하여 연구한 결과 승무는 무용역사상 가장 훌륭하고 아름다운 춤으로 완벽한 틀을 갖추었으며 각각 분석한 결과 앞으로 춤을 창작하거나 만들어 내는데 아주 중요하게 적용될 것이라는 결론에 도달하였다.
우아하고 아름다운 춤을 추고 싶을 때에는 한 장단 속에 내재된 정세의 춤사위와 과도세를 몇 개 할 것이며 또 한 장단 속에 움직임을 적게 넣거나 많이 넣음으로써 춤의 맛이 달라진다는 결과와 정중동의 배합에 의해 전혀 다른 춤들이 만들어지고 보여 질 것이라는 아주 중요한 사실을 확인하는 계기가 되었다.
특히 춤을 구성하는 방법이 인간의 신체발달에 미치는 영향에도 좌우된다는 사실을 깨닫게도 하였다. 본인은 이번 연구를 통하여 춤은 실기와 이론이 겸비 되었을 때 교육적 효과를 거둘 수 있으며 세계 속에 자리매김 될 것이라 절실히 느끼면서 전통춤의 보존 및 전수와 계승발전의 책임을 다시 한번 실감하였다.
