The purpose of this study is to find the relationship between mothers linguistic control pattern perceived by child and childs ego-resiliency and competence.
The subject of this study were 426 children(male 220, female 206) in the 5th and 6th grade of elementary schools in seoul.
There kinds of questionnaires were used for this study; mothers linguistic control pattern developed by Hee-jung Kim(2000), the ego-resiliency developed by Park(1996), the competence translated by Nam ki-Lee(1995) from self-perception profile for children; SPPC(1985).
The collected data were analyzed by SPSSWIN statistical program. The frequency and percentage were calculated to investigate the general characteristics of the subjects. Multiple Regression was performed to find out the relationship among mothers linguistic control pattern, and childrens ego-resiliency and competence.
The major results of this study are as follows;
First, concerning about ego-resiliency and mothers linguistic control pattern, when a child perceives mothers linguistic control pattern through more person-oriented control, the level of the childs ego-resiliency is higher, while through more imperative-oriented control, that of the childs ego-resiliency is lower.
Second, when the above discussion is considered with distinction of gender, boys are influenced (much) more than girls imperative-oriented control in (inter)personal relations. In contrary, boys are not influenced by any oriented control in emotional control.
Third, concerning about competence and mothers linguistic control pattern, when a child perceives mothers linguistic control pattern through more person-oriented control, the level of the childs competence is higher and through more imperative-oriented control, that of the childs competence is lower.
Forth, when the above discussion is considered with distinction of gender, boys are influenced (much) more by mothers position-oriented control in behavior competence, social competence than girls.
