The purpose study to explore the effect of Art Therapy program on decreasing depression and improving self-esteem in chronic schizophrenia.
The Art Therapy Program devised for this study was carried out once or twice a week with a total of 20trials (1hr. per trial) from November 19, 2003 to Desember 14,2004.
The research question of this study were as follows; First,
what aspects of qualitative change will brought up by art activities for the depression and self-esteems of the chronic schizophrenia?
Second, What effects does the group art therapy have on the depression syndrome of the chronic schizophrenia?
Third, What effects does the group art therapy have on the self-esteem of the chronic schizophrenia?
The subjects were 6 patients(4 male, 2 female) admitted to chronic schizophrenia in the mental hospitals in Pusan city.
The instruments of measurement used in this study were: SDS test, Self-Esteem test for the psychological state, and qualitative analysis.
To test hypotheses, wilcoxon rank sum test. were empolyed for the analysis of the data. Also, this study was performed using the qualitative analysis to know chronic schizophrenia's depression and self-esteem.
The result and discussion of this study were as follows;
First, with respect to qualitative aspects for the chronic schizophrenia's depression and self-esteems.
Second, the level of depression of experimental group significantly decreased compared with that of the control group in post-test. Third, the level of self-esteem of experimental group significantly improved compared with that of the control group.
In conclusion, findings of this study suggest that Group Art Therapy be used as an effective chronic schizophrenia patient's.
