When tourism guides are working with high pride in their work as civil diplomats, the recognition of Korea can be improved and tourism guides themselves can be the part of tourism resources. Even though tourism guides are playing this important roles, there are not enough studies on their job satisfaction and job attitudes.
Therefore, this study is devoted to set up the theory on tourism guides' job satisfaction, job attitudes and turnover intention. And we would like to seek how to improve tourism guides' quality, effective customer service in tourism industry and efficient management of tourism guides based on that theory.
In this study, the questionnaire has been carried out over 300 tourism guides working in Seoul and Busan from March 1, 2005 to April 30. In the selection of questionnaire area and tourism guide, the results were generalized by dividing specimens by area. 208 questionnaire papers among returned papers are used in this study excluding 48 papers which have not answered questions or have defects. SPSS11.0 is used for frequency analysis, cause analysis and reliability analysis, and multiple regression analysis are used to verify hypotheses. The results of hypotheses verification are as followed.
First, regarding the influence of job satisfaction on job attitudes, 3 factors of job attitudes -- job involvement, organizational commitment and job satisfaction have positive influences.
Second, job satisfaction has negative influences on turnover intention.
Third, regarding the influence of job attitudes on turnover intention, job involvement and organizational commitment have negative influences on turnover intention, and job satisfaction has been turned down on direction and attention. This is because even though tourism guides belong to the company, but they work as freelancers, therefore they are not much attached to the company. even though responds include many of non-regular workers or freelancers, it is not expected to generalize the results.
Following points can be applied to the tourism field based on the result of this study.
First, this study has values that it has used job satisfaction to analyze tourism guides' attitudes among studies on tourism guides.
Second, tourism guides in Korea are working as freelancers or contract workers rather than regular workers. Therefore, this study means much since this study includes tourism workers as both regular workers and non-regular workers in order to analyze influence on attitudes.
Third, this study shows that job satisfaction on tourism guides has the positive influence on job attitudes. Through this result, we can conclude that the more tourism guides are satisfied with their jobs, the more the company has positive responses. Therefore, it is important for employers and managers to provide working environment for tourism guides to have achievement and pride. This study suggests by doing this, tourism guides can provide customer focused services to improve tourism company achievement and tourism industry. Especially, as shown in this study, personnel in charge of human resource should pay attention to the fact that when tourism guides are satisfied with their jobs, they show high quality attitudes.
Forth, it shows that the tourism guides' positive attitudes have the negative influence on turnover intention. Therefore, judging from this study, it is important to provide working environment to give job involvement and organizational commitment to tourism guides. However, the fact that job satisfaction has the positive influence on turnover intention shows that most tourism guides are not satisfied with their jobs. Hence, as tourism guides are civil diplomats to show Korea to overseas tourists, there should be government policies to provide better working conditions for tourism guide.
For further studies, there should be consideration on how to select wide range samples with enough members in order to generalize the studies, and the studies must be carried out more scientifically and thoroughly. Also, through the comparison and analysis with people engaging in various specialized fields, the effort to acquire the objective study result should be made.
