The purpose of the study was to make comparative analysis between students who did and didn't receive dance education in the results of the test of emotional intelligence in order to determine how dance education affected high school girls' development of emotional intelligence. 65 students who received dance education and 70 students who received no dance education were asked to fill out a questionnaire about emotional intelligence through the self-administered method; questionnaires collected immediately were then processed through CR-test at 5% significance level. The results can be summarized as follows: First, as for emotional intelligence in interpersonal relationship, there were significant differences between the group that received dance education and the control group in self-confidence, leadership, and sociability. Second, as for emotional intelligence in social relationship, there was no significant difference in sympathy and self-control but were significant differences in sociality and a sense of responsibility between the group that received dance education and the control group. Third, as for emotional intelligence in the intra-personal area, there were significant differences in all of self-consciousness, optimism, and boldness between the group that received dance education and the control group. Fourth, as for emotional intelligence in achievement orientation, there was no significant difference in achievement needs but were significant differences in creativity and independence between the group that received dance education and the control group. Although these results can hardly be generalized and interpreted variously because it is impossible to exclude subjects' individual situations and regional properties, dance education may affect development of emotional intelligence. It is therefore necessary to develop many dance education programs, carry out studies that can be a substantial help to students continuously, and suggest a plan to measure emotional intelligence more objectively.
