Korean society faces several important problems such as ecological crisis, downfall of community mindset and dissolution of regional communities. In 21st century, the discussions about decentralization, localization and civic welfare have been frequented. Together with this tendency, the change from centralized welfare to regional welfare has occurred. So the interest about regional community as a mean to unite local residents and to create community life style has been increased more and more. As a result, the research about various types of welfare systems in order to promote regionalized welfare is needed accordingly.
At this stage, ecological community can provide a good solution because the ecological community is realizing ecological life subjectively through the cooperation of the community members, cooperative living and the production activities. The ecological community can fulfill the desire to achieve the 'quality of life', if the ecological community is applied ideally. In this thesis, the focus is made to elaborate on this idea.
We investigated some of the ecological communities already existing in Korea(YAMAGISHISMSAHOE GYUNHYANGSILHYUNJI -settlement-based community, DOORAE MAEUL-settlement-based community, HANSALIM-function-based community) and found the solutions about ecological crisis and destruction of community mindset. Through this investigation, the research on the relation between ecological community and regional social welfare is undertaken. Finally, the research to realize regional social welfare through ecological community is undertaken.
In Korean society, many communities already influence various fields such as education, environment, city planning, administration, society, culture, etc. It is worth to find out the solution of local problems and 'quality of life' problem through understanding the relationship between the ecological community and the regionalized social welfare. In addition, the directions to advance the community by solving present problems are discussed. The realizable type of community that is based on spontaneity and democratic mind is also discussed. This kind of community can be applied widely to the existing regional welfare fields.
