The purpose of this study is to investigate the reality of specially employed broadcasters in Daegu and the degree of their job satisfaction, centering around the special form of employment. That is, it is to understand what the special relation of employment between broadcasting company and broadcasters exactly is, whether or not the employment is rational and how the relation has an effect on the degree of job satisfaction.
This study named the 'Freelancer MCs' who are active as main presider of programs, but not a regular staff of the broadcasting station the specially employed broadcasters. Qualitative and quantitative methods as data investigation, questionnaire investigation and depths investigation were conducted to them. Out of total 35 subjects, the collected 26 questionnaires and 6 depths interviews were analyzed to get the degree of job satisfaction.
The research question 1 was "How are the specially employed broadcasters of broadcasting stations in Daegu composed of?" It was first investigated on data through internet homepage and then reaffirmed through questionnaire survey by direct visit. The investigation confirmed total 35 specially employed broadcasters in Daegu area, and 2 of which worked for 2 different companies. There are none for KBS, 12 for MBC, 8 for TBC, 11 for TBN, 1 for CBS, 2 for PBC and 1 for BBS.
The research question 2 was "What is the difference of duty between the specially employed broadcasters and the regular announcers?" The investigation showed that the specially employed broadcasters play MC, reporter, narrater, radio actor and weatherman in TV section, MC, narrater, radio actor, time signal, call sign and various spot recording in radio section, and news caster in full charge of news according to company. The result showed that the specially employed broadcasters play all the parts except for irregularly arranged sports relay or various ceremony relays, out of the roles of existing announcers. That means the role of both employees is similar. In some cases, a specially employed broadcaster plays the joint presider with an announcer in the same program or plays diverse roles at programs of different companies.
The research question 3 was "What is the degree of job satisfaction of the specially employed broadcasters in Daegu?". The investigation was conducted based on the analysis of questionnaire survey and the content of depths interview was added to it. The investigation showed that the specially employed broadcasters in Daegu considered the insecure employment that one can be unemployed only with cancellation notice irrational. They are dissatisfied with the performance fee without any negotiation with the person concerned and the unfixed income. It was also grasped that a delicate conflict was prevalent between them and the full times who demanded them to take a symbolic role externally, but regarded them just as one of actors inwardly.
In conclusion, the degree of job satisfaction of specially employed broadcasters, through questionnaire survey, was that the factor of human relation was the highest, then social assessment, share of role, self accomplishment, employment relation, organizational relation and economical relation in order. They showed low rate of satisfaction in terms of employment relation and economical relation, while comparatively high rate, in terms of self accomplishment, share of role and social assessment. They recognized that the general degree would rise if the contract that guarantees employment only for a certain period is made. The reanalysis through depths interview showed that they were satisfied with radio concerning the content of duty, role as presider and employment relation, while satisfied with TV concerning the organizational relation and economical relation. The analysis by sex showed that male were satisfied more than female. The rate of male to female, 5:21, suggested that the group of specially employed broadcasters can also be regarded as one of feminized occupations.
