Second, does the experimental group participated in the self-growth counseling program increase the sociability of students more than the control group? finally, according to the step of group counseling, is there any change of the score?
In order to test the hypothesis, the following procedures were used: 32 students were selected. The 32 students were then evenly divided into 2 groups: the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group of 16 students participated in the self-growth group counseling program for 5 weeks. It took 60-90 minutes each time and the group activity was performed 10 times in total, twice a week. For both groups, pre-tests and post-tests were administered with Self-Esteem Test and Social Maturity Test Inventory. After the 5 week program follow-up tests were conducted for the experimental group to examine how long the effect of the self-growth group counseling program lasted.
The data analysis in this study was used by t-test, covariance analysis and the repeated measurement analysis of variance to verify the effects of the group counseling program.
The effects of the 5 week program on self-esteem and sociability can be summarized as follows: Those who participated in the group counseling program increased the self-esteem more than the control group and the effects lasted after that. Also, those who participated in the group counseling program showed the enhancement of pleasure in social relationship, and communication skill which were two of the sub-tests of social maturity test, and the effects lasted after that. Therefore, The score of Session Evaluation increased significantly as the group counseling lasted, which had positive effect on the increase of self-esteem and the sociability.
