수도권지역 청소년들의 시민윤리의식 조사 연구

With the rapid economic development and change of social structure in Korean society during late decades, there have been such accumulating evidences of moral decline in Korean society as enlarging social corruption, public injustice, individualism, poignant materialism, and violent crimes. I think the current Korean civil society requires the mature citizens who have democratic attitude, reasonable thought, responsible decision in the face of moral problems.
The purpose of my dissertation is to analyze the civil ethical consciousness of teenagers in and around Seoul area through a sample survey, and cultivate an educational orientation of nurturing their civil ethic consciousness.
I have analyzed and revised the dependent variables of my survey based on the related theories and theoretical background of civil ethic consciousness. It has led me to think the importance of the following four moral values : the dignity of humankind, the respect for law, social participation, and autonomy. I have found that demographic character, family environment, and school life function as independent variables.
The data for this study were collected from 585 students of the third grade of middle school and the juniors of high school from seven different school located in Seoul and Kyung-gi area. The data of my survey were Factor Analysis, Frequency Analysis, ANOVA.
The results of this survey are as following :
First, the view of demographic characteristic variables according to gender, shows that the female students had much higher degree of the total civil ethic consciousness than the male students. The score of the respect for law in middle school students were higher than those of high school students. And the score of social participation and autonomy in high school students were higher than those of middle school students. There was no regional difference in the result analysis of civil ethic consciousness.
Secondly, the view of family life according to parents' educational levels and civil ethic consciousness shows meaningful effects in total civil ethic consciousness, social participation and autonomy. The higher parents' educational levels are, the higher students' civil ethic consciousness become. Also, the relationship between parents' jobs and civil ethic consciousness shows meaningful effects in participation consciousness in case of patient who is father and total civil ethic consciousness and autonomy in case of mother. And, the civil ethic consciousness according to the life level and family members showed meaningful effects in total civil ethic consciousness, the respect for law, autonomy. The higher is peoples' life level, the higher is their civil ethic consciousness. The civil ethic consciousness according to having siblings and no siblings showed meaningful effects in law-abiding spirit and participation consciousness. Those who have sibling have high the respect for law but, those who have no sibling have high participation consciousness. Next, the relationship of students' order and civil ethic consciousness show meaningful effects total civil ethic consciousness and the respect for law when the order is the middle or the first was higher than the one or the youngest. And also, the civil ethic consciousness according to more conversation having with parents shows meaningful effect in total civil ethic consciousness, participation consciousness and autonomy. The more they have conversation, the higher their civil ethic consciousness become.
Thirdly, to examine the civil ethic consciousness according to school life, first of all, from the view of civil ethic consciousness there are differences of total civil ethic consciousness, participation consciousness, and autonomy. The higher marks they have, the higher they have civil ethic consciousness. But, the marks of moral and ethical subject show meaningful effects in social participation and autonomy. The relation with the number of friends to civil ethic consciousness shows meaningful effects in only social participation. But, the relation of the respect for class teachers to civil ethic consciousness shows meaningful effects in total civil ethic consciousness and autonomy. The more they respect him, the more they have civil ethic consciousness. And the relation with problem solution according to conversation to civil ethic consciousness shows meaningful effects. The more they have conversation to solve their problems, the higher they have civil ethic consciousness.
Finally in this study, variables which affect the total civil ethic consciousness were proved with gender, parents' educational level, mothers' job, life level, students' order, conversational time with parents, respect for class teachers and marks.
Through the above result of my analysis, here I come to cultivate an educational direction for the formation of civil ethic consciousness.
I have found how the household and school life of teenagers are effectively related to either nurturing or declining their civil ethic consciousness. The school education of civil ethic consciousness cannot succeed without the support of domestic education. Parents are ethical icons of their children, and they must be. Also, schools must think about the methodical change and atmosphere for the effective education. For it, parents have to pursue the life pattern of democratic family community and teachers must try to democratize and justify our school education. And, we have to practice the study of various teaching method through mass-media, and we have to give students the opportunity to join all kinds of service action and experience.
Through these efforts, our next generation can grow to be responsible citizens ased on the civil ethic consciousness and attitudes. building democratic society.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

오늘날 우리는 급격한 사회변화로 인하여 반인륜적 범죄, 사회비리와 부정부패, 이기주의 풍조, 물질만능주의의 팽배, 폭력의 난무 등 수많은 문제점들을 안고 있다. 따라서 현재 우리 사회에서는 이러한 문제들을 합리적으로 판단하고 해결하려는 민주 시민으로서의 태도가 어느 때보다도 절실하게 요구되어지고 있다.
이에 본 연구는 미래 사회의 주역이 될 청소년들을 민주 시민으로 육성하기 위해 수도권 지역 청소년들의 시민윤리의식을 측정하고, 이를 통해 시민윤리교육의 방향성을 제시하고자 하였다.
분석에서 사용된 종속변수는 시민윤리의식으로 문항의 척도는 문헌연구와 이론적 배경을 검토한 것을 바탕으로 수정 보완하여 실시하였다. 그 결과 시민윤리의식을 규정하는 중요한 덕목으로 인간존중, 준법정신, 참여의식, 자율성을 선정하였다. 이에 영향을 미치는 독립변수들로는 인구학적 변수, 가정생활 변수, 학교생활 변수를 살펴보았다.
연구문제를 해결하기 위해 서울과 경기 지역의 7개 중·고등학교 중3, 고1, 고2 학생 585명을 대상으로 설문을 실시하였고, 수집된 자료는 요인분석, 빈도분석, 분산분석을 실시하였다.
본 연구의 조사 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 인구학적 특성에 따른 분석의 결과 성별과 시민윤리의식의 관계는 여학생이 남학생에 보다 높게 나타났다. 학년에 따른 차이는 준법정신의 경우 중학생이 고등학생보다 높게 나타났고, 참여의식과 자율성의 경우에는 고등학생이 중학생보다 높게 나타났다. 지역에 따른 시민윤리의식에 대한 분석결과는 유의미한 차이를 보이지 않았다.
둘째, 가정생활에 따른 분석의 결과 부모의 학력과 시민윤리의식은 총체적인 시민윤리의식, 참여의식, 자율성에서 유의미한 차이가 나타났는데 부모의 학력이 높을수록 시민윤리의식의 수준은 높게 나타났다. 또한, 부모의 직업과 시민윤리의식의 관계는 아버지의 경우 참여의식에서 유의미한 차이를 보였고, 어머니의 경우는 총체적인 시민윤리의식과 자율성에서 유의미한 차이를 보였다. 생활수준과 가족구성원의 형태에 따른 시민윤리의식은 총체적 시민윤리의식, 준법정신, 참여의식, 자율성에서 유의미한 차이를 나타냈다. 이는 생활수준이 높을수록 시민윤리의식도 높게 나타났다. 형제자매 유무에 따른 시민윤리의식은 준법정신과 참여의식에서 유의미한 차이를 보였는데, 형제자매가 있는 경우 준법정신은 높은 반면, 참여의식은 형제자매가 없는 경우 높게 나타났다. 다음으로 조사대상자의 서열과 시민윤리의식의 관계에서는 총체적 시민윤리의식과 준법정신에서 유의미한 차이를 보였는데, 서열이 중간이거나 첫째일 경우가 외동이나 막내일 경우보다 높게 나타났다. 또한, 부모와의 대화시간에 따른 시민윤리의식은 총체적인 시민윤리의식, 참여의식, 자율성에서 유의미한 차이를 보였는데 이는 대화시간이 많을수록 시민윤리의식이 높게 나타났다.
셋째, 학교생활 특성에 따른 분석의 결과 먼저, 성적에 따른 시민윤리의식에 관한 분석결과는 총제척인 시민윤리의식, 참여의식, 자율성에서 유의미한 차이가 나타났는데 상위 성적일수록 시민윤리의식이 높게 나타났다. 그러나, 도덕·윤리교과의 성적은 참여의식과 자율성에서만 유의미한 차이를 보였다. 또한, 친구수와 시민윤리의식과의 관계는 참여의식에서만 유의미한 차이를 보였다. 그러나 담임교사에 대한 존경정도와 시민윤리의식과의 관계는 총체적인 시민윤리의식과 자율성에서 유의미한 차이가 나타났는데 이는 존경심이 높을수록 높은 시민윤리의식이 나타났다. 또한 대화를 통한 문제해결력과 시민윤리의식의 관계는 총체적인 시민윤리의식, 참여의식, 자율성에서 유의미한 차이가 나타났는데 이는 문제해결을 위해 대화를 많이 할수록 시민윤리의식이 높게 나타났다.
지금까지의 결과를 통해 성, 부모학력, 어머니직업, 생활수준, 조사대상자의 서열, 부모와의 대화시간, 담임교사에 대한 존경심 정도, 성적, 학급문제 해결방식은 청소년의 시민윤리의식에 중요한 변수로 작용됨이 증명되었다.
마지막으로 연구 결과를 토대로 본 연구에서 제시하는 시민윤리의식 형성을 위한 방향은 다음과 같다.
분석결과에서도 나타나듯이 가정과 학교는 청소년들의 시민윤리의식에 많은 영향력을 미친다. 그러므로 올바른 시민윤리의식 형성을 위해선 가정과 학교의 변화가 함께 이루어져야 할 것이다. 가정에서 부모들의 생활에 모범은 물론 학교교육의 재구성과 여건조성 및 방법론적 탈바꿈이 필요하다. 이를 위해 민주적 가족공동체의 생활양식을 추구해야 할 것이며, 학교교육의 민주화와 정당화를 위한 노력이 전제 되어야 한다. 또한 매스미디어를 이용한 다양한 교수학습방법의 연구가 실행되어야 할 것이고, 학생들에게 다양한 봉사활동과 체험활동 등 사회참여의 기회를 마련해 주어야 할 것이다. 우리는 이러한 노력을 통해 청소년들이 민주 사회 속에서 책임 있는 시민으로 성장하고, 올바른 시민윤리의식과 태도를 내면화하여 민주시민의 자질을 함양 할 수 있도록 해야 한다.
