The purpose of this study was to investigate difference between normal children and children with reading disabilities in reading comprehension. Followings are specific research questions of this study.
1. Are there signigicant differences between normal children and children with reading disabilities in reading comprehension in cause of cognitive development?
2. Are there signigicant differences between normal children and children with reading disabilities in reading comprehension in language factors?
3. Are there signigicant differences between normal children and children with reading disabilities in reading comprehension in independent variable?
4. What are the most important factors influenced to reading comprehension for children with reading disabilities?
Studies with reading disabilities, participated in this study were selected based on the discrepancy criteria of learning disabilities. The sample was classified into two groups: (1) a group of 13 children with reading disabilities; (2) a group of 30 normal children. Students in the sample of this study do not have severe emotional problems, uncorrected vision problems, hearing loss, acquired neurological disorders. The following measures were administerd: working memory, attention, vocabulary knowledge, reading fluency, listen comprehension, sentence comprehension and background.
Analysis of variance and stepwise multiple regression techniques were used to analyze data collected from the sample of this study.
The result of this study were as follows:
1. Children with reading disabilities performed significantly poorly on test of working memory and attention than normal children.
2. Children with reading disabilities performed significantly poorly on test of vocabulary knowledge, reading fluency, listen comprehension and sentence comprehension than normal children.
3. Children with reading disabilities performed significantly poorly on test of background knowledge than normal children.
4. Attention is the most important factor influenced to reading comprehension of children with reading disabilities.
