아르헨티나 탱고 춤의 특성에 관한 연구

Regardless of the countries, races and social classes, as the 21 centuries' global culture Tango which is the historical and periodical culture-creature of Argentina is prosperous. This thesis tries to find the involved characters of Tango which can lead to the popularization of Dancing Art by illuminating Tango.
As the center of Industrial revolution and trade, Buenos Aires - a port city in Argentina - became the main city developed with exchanging and emigrating. Therefore we can see the diverse cultural mixture and they are generating their own special culture with the absence of foreigner, solitude and nostalgia and so on. That is, Tango was generated by speaking for a lower social stratum neglected as a folk dance . In the political and social background of economical renaissance, emigration and socialization which was the biggest uniqueness in Argentina history, Tango related with their own ideology, culture and life-style could be recognized as the creature of the day when Argentina(1880) made the basic of an identity. However, Tango became increasingly popular all the area of Europe including Paris in the early of 1900 before their native place because of the disbelief and inhospitality from the upper classes. By standardizing Bandoneon came from Germany and Orchestra tipica’s tango orchestra, the effect of the music was increased by Carlos Gardel and Astor Piazzolla even in the political isolation and confusion in Argentina. After that, because of the uncertain domestic condition and war, there was a complete blank called stagnation of Tango for 30years (1950~1970). From 1980, Tango was restored out of all recognition by researching scientifical technique and performance without an extempore. Finally, the field of Tango was expanded to theatrical art named Stage Tango period. Getting out of bringing layman into fantasy world by showing gorgeous dress, lighting and setting, new and exceptional Tango could provide audience with deep inspiration. Moreover, it contributed a lot for Argentina Tango internationally.
Therefore, this thesis is going to deal with the pieces of works <Fascination Tango>, <Tango Emotion>, <Forever Tango> which introduced Argentina Tango widely. By looking into how their contents, motion, music and dress are expressed, we are able to understand the diverse of the dancing culture. As a global culture which is historical and periodical culture-creature of Argentina, I will arrange the aspect which how they achieved an international popularization as below.
First, through music and dancing in the work, it contains same subjects and contents, but I am willing to directly express human's constant discords and troubles existing through their historical fact and culture. Second, the contact with partner and the gorgeous leg movement which are the biggest feature of the provocative and sensual movement of Tang can make audience feel sexuality. At the same time, we can recognize that they are dealing with love with comic theme and amusement of exaggerative movement. Eventually we can feel a strong humanism. The third, Tango showing a strong emotion and affection sorrowfully speaks for poor people and it can pass passion, romanticism and sadness of Bandoneon including live performance on the public directly. Therefore, Tango can increase a spiritual bonds through music. The fourth, a female dancer's attractive exposure, silhouette dress, the integrity of the short skirt, the brilliantly decorated accessories and the shining high heelses shoes can emphasize dancer's fascination and aggressive leg movement as well as an eroticism for visual effect that is a key-word of commercialization. Also, male dancers with glossily hair-style, traditional tuxedo, neck-tie and a felt hat showing off their man's character expressed the solitude of the lower classes and an internal sense of loss as a rapidly progressive expression.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 아르헨티나의 역사와 시대성의 문화 산물인 탱고가 오늘날 세계 국가간, 인종간, 계층간의 경계를 초월하여 21세기 글로벌 문화로서 부흥기를 맞이하고 있는 사실로 볼 때 탱고 춤을 조명함으로써 무용예술의 대중화를 도모할 수 있는 춤에 내포된 특성들을 찾고자 하였다.
아르헨티나의 항구도시 부에노스 아이레스는 산업혁명과 무역의 중심지로서 교역과 이민이 성행하는 주요 도시로 발전하며 외지인의 빈번한 유입과 이민정책으로 인해 다양한 문화적 혼합 양상이 나타나는 가운데 이방인들의 정체성의 부재와 고독, 향수 등의 삶에 대한 애환으로 그들만의 독특한 문화를 만들어 간다. 즉 탱고는 민속무용의 성격을 지니면서 1880년대 소외된 하층민을 대변하는 문화로서 발생하여 아르헨티나 역사의 가장 큰 특징이었던 경제부흥과 이민, 그리고 도시화를 중심으로 그들의 사상, 문화 및 생활양식에 관계하며 아르헨티나가 국가 정체성의 기초를 마련하던 시대의 산물로서 이해 할 수 있다. 그러나 하층민에서 시작된 탱고는 상류 지배층의 불신과 냉대로 본고장에 앞서 1900년대 초, 파리를 비롯한 유럽 전역에서 선풍적인 인기를 끌게 된다. 독일에서 유입된 반도네온의 합류와 오르케스타 티피카의 탱고악단이 정형화되면서 음악적 영향력이 증대되었고 아르헨티나의 정치적 고립과 혼란 속에서도 카를로스 가르델과 아스토르 피아졸라와 같은 거장들로 부흥의 리듬은 고조되었다. 이후 불안한 국내사정과 전쟁 등의 이유로 약 30년간(50년대 초-70년대 후반) 탱고의 침체기를 겪는 공백기가 있었으나 1980년대에 새롭게 부활한 탱고는 초기의 즉흥성과 일상성이 배재된 기술적으로 뛰어나고 과학적인 동작을 연구함으로써 탱고의 영역이 무대예술로서 확대되는 스테이지 탱고 시대를 열게 되었다. 현란한 의상과 조명·무대장치 등으로 문외한들을 환상의 세계로 끌어들이는 무대 공연의 효과와 전통에서 벗어나 새롭고 파격적인 동작들로 관객에게 깊은 감흥을 전달하면서 세계적으로 아르헨티나 탱고 붐을 일으키는데 큰 기여를 하게 된 것이다.
따라서 본 논문에서는 국내에 아르헨티나 탱고를 소개하고 저변을 확대하는데 일익을 담당했던 작품 「Fascination Tango」, 「Tango Emotion,「Forever Tango」의 내용 및 움직임, 음악, 의상이 어떻게 표현되어졌는지 살펴봄으로써 아르헨티나의 역사와 시대성의 문화 산물인 탱고가 글로벌 문화로서 국제적인 대중화를 이룬 춤의 특성을 다음과 같이 정리하였다.
첫째, 작품 속에서 음악과 춤을 통해 탱고의 역사를 표현하고자 하는 공통된 내용을 담고 있으나 이는 인간 삶의 끊임없이 존재하는 화두이자 갈등과 번뇌를 그들의 역사적 사실과 문화를 통해서 직접적으로 표현하고자 하였다. 둘째, 탱고 움직임의 가장 큰 특징인 파트너와의 접촉과 강렬한 긴장미를 자아내는 현란한 다리동작으로 도발적이면서도 절제된 관능미는 관객으로 하여금 섹슈얼리티를 느끼게 하는 동시에 대부분 사랑을 테마로 한 점이나 작품마다 빠지지 않고 등장하는 코믹하고 과장된 움직임의 유희적 측면을 볼 때 강한 휴머니즘이 내재되어 있음을 알 수 있다. 셋째, 격정과 애감을 절절하게 노래하는 탱고는 가난한 민중의 마음을 연주나 노래로서 대변하며 정열·낭만·비애 등을 반도네온의 애잔한 음색을 포함한 라이브 연주로 대중들에게 직접 그 감흥을 전달하며 음악을 통한 정서적인 유대감을 배가시키는 역할을 한다.
넷째, 여자무용수의 유혹적인 노출과 실루엣을 강조한 패턴의 드레스, 깊게 파진 스커트의 절개, 화려하게 장식된 악세사리와 반짝이는 하이힐은 여성의 매력을 한층 강조하며 공격적이면서도 역동적인 다리 움직임을 위해서뿐만 아니라 탱고를 상업화하는데 키워드로 작용한 에로티시즘의 시각적인 효과를 더해주는 기능을 한다고 볼 수 있다. 남자무용수의 의상 역시 반지르한 헤어스타일에 전통적인 턱시도와 넥타이, 중절모 등으로 남성성을 멋스럽게 과시한 것은 당대 하층민들의 고독과 내적 상실감의 비약적인 표출로 보여진다.
