하나유치원 종일반 오후 자유선택활동의 운영과 놀이 특성에 관한 문화기술적 연구

The purpose of this study is to understand the characteristics of the physical environment constructed during the time that free choice activities in the afternoon are run for a full-time class, the characteristics of running the time of free choice activities in the afternoon and the children's characteristics of play behaviors. Accordingly, through ethnographic research, the study was to analyze the characteristics of the physical environment constructed to run the afternoon program for Areum class of Hana Kindergarten, the characteristics of running the time of free choice activities in the afternoon and the children's characteristics of play behaviors during the time of free choice activities in the afternoon.
Questions to investigate these are as follows:
1. How is the physical environment for the time of free choice activities in the afternoon for Areum class of Hana Kindergarten?
2. What are the characteristics of running the time of free choice activities in the afternoon for Areum class of Hana Kindergarten?
3. What are the children's characteristics of play behaviors during the time of free choice activities in the afternoon for Areum class of Hana Kindergarten?
This study was carries out in Hana kindergarten within university. The subject were twenty six children and two teachers.
Data were collected through twenty eight participating observations, two teacher-interview by inquiry during a period from September 16, to December, 10, 2004.
Data were collected field jotting, audio-tape recording, documental transcribed in field notes, and the contents of interview were duplicated and materialized.
While collecting the data, analytical notes about the data were written. After the collection was completed, full-scale analysis and interpretation were carried out. The cases were coded, categorized and analyzed according to Bodgan & Biklen(1992)'s methodology.
The results of this research are as follows:
First, it should be considered to construct the physical environment for children's pleasant and comfortable life during the time of free choice activities in the afternoon for the full-time class: to prepare a place for children to take their rest individually in the afternoon when they get more tired; to construct such a place like a veranda which can be used as a new learning place as they can escape from staying in one place all day feeling bored; and to prepare a place to help run the activities by making connection between morning and afternoon.
Second, in terms of the characteristics of running the time of free choice activities in the afternoon, connection between morning and afternoon was found. With daily lessons in the morning connected to those in the afternoon, personal matters, happenings, accidents, etc. of children were transferred between teachers. The interest and attention that children had in the morning were continued in the afternoon, which enabled them to have deeper and more expansive experiences. In addition, the time of afternoon should be run to help children be emotionally stable, while a number of various and dynamic activities were conducted to avoid the change from a daily experience to boredom. Lastly, considering the children's physical tiredness, teachers supported them to spend the afternoon being healthy and act appropriately to each one's physical condition.
Third, during the time of free choice activities in the afternoon for the full-time class, the children themselves were planning how to play in the afternoon and participated in play voluntarily. Moreover, once they started a play in a field, they continued that play alone or with peers longer than they did in the morning. Finally, some children were so tired in the afternoon as to be slow in introducing themselves to play. Others started play in a hurry to enjoy more what they wanted to do before the time to go home.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 종일반 프로그램의 오후 자유선택활동의 운영과 유아의 놀이 행동 특징을 이해하는데 목적이 있다. 따라서 하나유치원 아름반 종일반 오후 자유선택활동시간의 물리적 환경 구성, 오후 자유선택활동시간의 운영 특징과 유아들의 놀이 행동 특성에 대해 문화기술적 연구 방법을 통하여 분석해보고자 하였다.
이를 알아보기 위한 연구문제는 다음과 같다.
1. 하나유치원 아름반의 오후 자유선택활동시간을 위한 물리적 환경은 어떠한가?
2. 하나유치원 아름반의 오후 자유선택활동시간의 운영 특징은 무엇인가?
3. 하나유치원 아름반의 오후 자유선택활동시간 동안 유아의 놀이 행동 특성은 무엇인가?
본 연구는 서울시 대학 캠퍼스 내에 위치한 하나유치원 내 종일반인 아름반에서 이루어졌으며, 연구대상은 이 학급 유아 26명과 교사 2명이었다. 2004년 9월 16일부터 2004년 12월 10일까지 총 28회 참여관찰과 총 2회의 형식적인 교사면담, 비형식적인 유아면담을 실시하였다. 자료수집은 현장약기, 녹음, 문서 자료 수집, 사진 촬영 등을 통해 이루어졌고, 현장 약기와 녹음 내용은 현장노트로 만들었으며, 면담자료는 면담 전사본을 만들었다. 수집된 자료는 Bogdan과 Biklen(1982)이 제시한 대로 부호화하고 범주화하여 분석하였다.
본 연구를 통해 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 종일반의 물리적 환경 구성을 살펴보면, 종일반의 오후 자유선택활동시간을 보내기 위해서 종일반의 특성을 고려한 기본적인 시설ㆍ설비가 갖추어져 있었고, 유아와 교사가 종일반 생활을 하면서 필요에 의해 만들어낸 창의적인 공간들이 있었다.
둘째, 오후 자유선택활동시간의 운영 특성으로 오전과 오후의 연계성, 안정 속에서의 변화, 건강과 안전을 중시한 돌봄이라는 특성을 발견하였다. 우선, 오후 자유선택활동시간은 오전 자유선택활동과 연계성을 가지고 있었는데, 오전에서 오후로 일과가 연계되면서 교사들은 오전의 유아의 신변, 사건과 사고 등에 대해 인수인계를 하였고, 유아들이 오전에 가지고 있던 흥미와 관심이 오후에도 연계되어서 심화되고 확장된 경험을 할 수 있도록 운영하고 있었다. 또한 오후 시간은 유아들이 정서적으로 안정감을 가질 수 있도록 운영되어야 하지만, 한편 일상성이 지루함으로 변하지 않도록 변화있고 역동적인 다양한 활동이 진행되고 있었다. 마지막으로 교사는 오후 시간 동안 유아들의 신체적인 피로함을 고려하여서 유아들이 건강하게 지내고 개인의 신체 상황에 적절하게 활동할 수 있도록 돌보아주었다.
셋째, 종일반 오후 자유선택활동시간 동안 나타나는 유아 놀이 행동 특성으로 놀이의 자발성, 놀이의 지속성, 놀이 도입에 느림 혹은 서두름이라는 특성을 발견할 수 있었다. 유아들은 오후 자유선택활동시간에 유아들은 오전에 비해 놀이 계획과 참여에 더 자발적인 모습을 나타내었다. 또한 유아들은 한 영역에서 놀이를 시작하면 혼자 혹은 또래들과 함께 오전에 비해 오랫동안 그 놀이를 지속하였다. 마지막으로 유아들은 오후 시간이 되면 피곤해서 놀이에 느리게 도입하는 유아들이 있었고, 귀가 전 자신이 원하는 놀이를 더 하기 위해서 서둘러 놀이를 시작하는 유아들도 있었다.
