This paper is to investigate the relationship between goal orientation and self-regulated learning of the elementary and secondary school students.
In order to achieve the purpose of this study, the following problems should be raised:
1. Are there any differences of goal orientation according to grades?
2. Are there any differences of self-regulated learning according to grades?
3. Are there any differences between Goal orientation and self-regulated learning according to grades?
A total number of 524 students participated in this study. They 191 elementary school students, 163 middle school students and 170 high school students from the schools located in Seoul participated in this study.
A measurement instruments, goal orientations scale and self-regulated learning strategies scale were used. goal orientation scale were composed of learning goal orientation and performance goal orientation. Besides, self-regulated learning scale were composed of motivation, metacognition and learning strategies.
The data of this study were analyzed by the statistical method of ANOVA, scheffe´ test, correlation coefficient, multiple regression analysis through the SPSS program.
The result of this study can be summerized as in the follows:
First, learning goal orientation is getting decreased and performance goal orientation is getting increased as grades go up.
Second, in Self-Regulated Learning's developmental level, elementary school students higher than middle school students in the motivation. High school students higher than elementary, middle school students in metacognition and learning strategy. High school students are highest and elementary school students are lowest for the sub-factors of Self-Regulated Learning.
Third, there are different correlations between goal orientation and self-regulated learning according to the grades. Especially, there is a statistically significant correlations between learning goal orientation and self-regulated learning in students with higher grades. Beside, performance goal orientation and self-regulated learning are correlations for elementary and middle school students however, performance goal orientation and self-regulated learning is not correlated for high school students except a test anxiety factor.
