Advertisements using Fine arts have existed since the origin of advertisements, and fine arts have also been influenced by popular culture since Pop Art in the 1960s. On the interaction of them, this study is intended to examine the status and the effect of Korean parody advertisements through the researches on advertisements using the parody of Fine arts.
Parody means the integrated structural imitation process which re-edits, re-composes, transmissions and trans-contextualizings the existing the fine arts. Recently, parody has been used in many advertisements and this is because various materials such as famous fine arts, movies and comedies are used as abundant texts with being able to create new things due to the development of media and technology.
Parody in advertisements can be sorted three types; the first is the sarcastical parody which
converts negative images into positive laughter by appealing to customer's reason rather than their emotion; the second is the ironical parody which expresses the opposition of surface meanings to induces audience's consciousness; the third is the metaphorical parody which describes another material as a substitute for a main objection.
Modern terminology of Fine Arts has set in since its origination in 1746 when French philosopher Charles Batteux(1713~1780) introduced this terminology in his book <Traite des beaux-arts, reduits a un meme principe>. Since then, it is up to present time through the trend of arts. The effects of ads using the contexts of Fine Arts are generally summarized as below four.
Firstly, 'Context Effect' can be referred. The images of Fine Arts function as a context in the ads by naturally matching with the situations, which help customers easily understand what the ads try to appeal. Secondly, parodies give customers familiarities and enhance the effects because they already knew the originals. Thirdly, the customers, who are aware of art works in advance, may be more partial to the parodic ads cited from their favorable works. Lastly, parodies from fine art works get the customers to discovery messages in the other side of presented information therefore they induce customers to bring up rather intellectual communications.
This study shows the effect of parody advertisements of Fine Arts. The analyses of the cases of printed advertisements and the results of positive examinations are as below.
As the results of analyzing the effect of parody advertisements into the elements(easiness in the transmission of meaning, facility in the recognition of original works, uplifting of good's impression, satire & amusements and so forth), there are largly used four expression techniques in lots of advertisements.
The first method is an interconnection with copy in the simply borrowing images from the art works, the second is a composition with original works by using computer, the third is a parody of a description of the works by borrowing characteristic styles from artists, and the fourth is a recreation by models in a real picture.
Nowadays the first and the second methods prevail in Korea, whereas according to leading cases the third and the fourth methods are prevalent throughout the overseas including Europe.
To apprise of cognizance and purchasing effect of parody advertisements of Fine Arts among general people, positive examination analyses are as follows.
In a day, the internet is the most common medium of advertisements for respondents, and the television is the second.
