성인의 인터넷 및 스마트폰 이용 지표 개발을 위한 예비 연구

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aimed to develop index to distinguish those who experience minor difficulty in their online or offline life - though not to the degree of addiction - due to the use of the internet and smartphones, to help prevent addiction. In order to discriminate internet /smartphone users with minor problem in everyday life, only usage factors such as the duration and frequency of internet use were used as key variables, while the symptoms of addiction and psychological/social causes were excluded. A survey was conducted with 3,988 adults nationwide aged between 24 and 54, inquiring the severity of their online problem, the duration of their internet/smartphone use (per use, per day and on weekend/ weekdays), the frequency of their internet/smartphone use (per use, and per day) and the duration and frequency (per use, per day and on weekend/weekdays) of using major content (game, mobile messenger, etc.) on the internet and smartphones. Upon dividing the normal group and the minor-problem group, an ROC analysis was conducted with key variables showing meaningful between-group differences, to derive thresholds for the amount of internet/smartphone use. The results indicated that the duration of internet use on weekend, the duration of gaming on weekdays and the duration of gaming on weekend were the factors which had implications for internet use associated with minor problem, with the threshold use of 120 minutes, 60 minutes and 90 minutes respectively. As for smartphones, the duration per use was found to be the factor related to smartphone use associated with minor problem, with the threshold of 10 minutes. This paper concludes by discussing ways to utilize the indexs developed in this study for the purpose of addiction prevention and treatment.
