This paper attempts to analyze the historical path that Korean labor politics has experienced since the liberation from the Japanese colonial rule.In order to achieve this purpose, ideal types of labor politics and traditional dynamics from one type to another are suggested.According to the analysis, Korean labor politics changed from a conflictual pluralism under the American Military Government(1945.1948) to a state authoritarianism which was formed by the Rhee regime(1948. 1960) and consolidated by the Park(1961.1979) and Chun(1980.1987) regime. It was the Massive Workers Struggle of 1987 that transformed the longstanding state authoritarianism to a kind of conflictual pluralism in which confrontations between capital and labor became very visible and extensive. The economic crisis of 1997, however, changed the labor politics again.A social partnership showed up in 1998.These historical changes from one to another labor politics can be explained by the confluence of regime character, power configuration of social coalitions, and abnormal circumstantial setting.
