연구자의 위치와 연구윤리에 관한 소고 : 문화기술지연구를 중심으로 = The Position and Ethics of the Researcher in Ethnographic Research

국문 초록 (Abstract)

영 · 미권을 중심으로 교육현장연구의 주요 방법으로 확산된 문화기술지연구는 연구자와 제보자 사이의 얼굴을 마주 대하는 만남이라는 특수한 관계설정을 통해 이루어지기 때문에 인간과 인간 사이에서 발생할 수 있는 윤리적 문제들을 포괄적으로 다루어야 한다. 본 논문에서는 연구 수행상의 윤리뿐만 아니라 연구 장소를 떠나는 과정과 떠난 후의 자료정리 및 집필과정 등 문화기술지의 생성과 발표에 걸친 모든 작업과정에서의 윤리적인 면들을 짚어 봄으로써 "잘 쓰인" 문화기술지를 지향하기 보다는 "올바른" 문화기술지에 대한 판단의 준거를 탐색해 보고자 한다. 이를 위해 문화기술지연구에서의 연구자의 위치와 역할에 대한 검토와 함께 연구 중 발생할 수 있는 윤리적인 쟁점과 딜레마를 검토하겠다. 연구윤리에 대한 심도 있는 논의는, 비단 연구 수행상의 방법적 절차로써 중요할 뿐만 아니라 문화기술지연구의 본질에 대한 이해를 증진시키고, 더 나아가 질적 연구의 방법론적 토대를 공고히 할 수 있다. 즉, 연구윤리적인 측면을 우선적으로 고려한 문화기술지 생성에 대한 성찰적 반추는 문화기술지 및 교육기술지의 본질에 대한 이해를 추구하는 또 한 가지의 접근방식으로써 유용하다.

This paper examines the various possible ethical dilemmas that the researcher may encounter during the entire course of ethnographic research that involves fieldwork, data analysis and writing process. Due to the unique aspect of ethnographic research where the researcher has to gather data through long-term face-to-face contact with his or her informants, both predictable and unpredictable ethical problems that may arise from diverse fieldwork situations are altogether unavoidable. By carefully investigating the various ethical obstacles one may need to overcome during the whole ethnographic research process, this paper aims to establish what constitutes a "good" ethnography rather than a "well-written" one. In short, an in-depth discussion based on reflexive rumination on the ethical aspects of research not only enables us to improve upon our research skills, but also enhances our understanding of the intrinsic value of ethnographic research in general.
