청소년기 빈곤이 청년기 노동시장 성취에 미치는 영향에 대한 연 = The Effect of Poverty in Adolescence on Labor Market Attainment in Young Adulthood

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aimed to estimate the effect of poverty in adolescence (ages 17) on labor market achievements during young adulthood (ages 20-26). This study analyzed the 1999-2009 data from the Korean Labor and Income Panel Study (KLIPS) using multinomial logistic regression model and Heckman’s sample selection model. Controlling for demographic characteristics and family backgrounds, poverty in adolescence decrease wage(-14.6%) in young adulthood who were not student and the negative relation has increased from extremely poor group(-40.9%). These findings showed that the effect of adolescence poverty can last in later life. Considering high education level of young adults, academic achievement could not be enough to get high gains in labor market. Based on these findings, this study suggest that anti-poverty policies have to concentrate on welfare services for job ability of young adults who have grown up in poor families as well as improving educational attainment. Anti-poverty programs (e.g. National Basic Livelihood Protection Program) should consider families who live with children and social policies support children growing up in poor families in long term view and strategies.
