This paper is to analyze North Korea's ''National Collaboration' and inter-Koreans relations during the last ten years. It also tries to analyze the prospects for future inter-Korean relations and North Korea's policy direction towards South Korea in the context of North Korea's nuclear crisis. Finally, it provides some policy suggestions for the future inter-Korean relations.
North Korea redefined the concept of the nation and began to emphasize it in 1990's. The most important requirement for the same nation is to share blood and language. North Korea's nationalism is characterized by self-reliance on the basis of which Korean should expel the U.S. forces from the Korean peninsula. North Korea's nationalism can materialize only under the leadership of the Great Leader.
As for the inter-Korean relations, the relationship has developed in many areas during the last ten years: reunion of separated family, economic cooperation of over seven million dollars a year, a number of government talks including the 2002 summit, exchange visit of people. However, the inter-Korean relationship has yet to make progress in such areas as the reduction in military tension, dispute over the policy towards North Korea between the progressive group and conservative group, substantial change of North Korea.
