60년 한미동맹의 지속과 변화

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

For 60 years, the alliance between South Korea and the United States has been firm and strong while South Korea has borne untold dilemma of the asymmetrical aspects of the alliance so as to achieve the perpetual peaceful relationship between two Koreas. It reflects shared security interests of South Korea and the United States to cope with extension of communist on the peninsula. Today it appears to be on a path toward the reregulation of the ROK-US alliance each other, leading many to reconsider positively about the future of the alliance. It needs to improve a redefinition of the ROK-US alliance and establish a more reasonable alliance strategy for the future. The key question today, as the United States and South Korea enter their own way, is not whether that relationship can be sustained, but whether what it works for, with friends and supporters of the alliance in both countries. In advance, beyond the current US-dominated alliance, it is necessary to make an effort to establish a sound alliance strategy for the future based on the expanded definition as follows; i) the alliance must basically works for the best interests of the counter-North Korean. It must stay on the function of the alliance against Pyongyang. ⅱ) The current US-dominated alliance would change to one with significant security of Seoul and a peninsula orientation. ⅲ) Korea needs a strong and forward-looking US-ROK alliance to coordinate conflicts in the Northeast Asia as well as on the Korean peninsula. In addition, the two countries needs focus on strengthening security and economic cooperation, and try to find ways to work out the regional political issues.
