The purpose of this study was to examine the path model of the effect of family strength, school strength and self-esteem and resilience as protection factors on suicidal ideation. Also, this study intended to suggest effective policy and practical intervention to prevent the suicidal ideation among adolescents. The results of the study were as follow: First, Adolescent`s family strength, school strength and self-esteem directly affect suicidal ideation while resilience did not directly affect suicidal ideation. Second, family strength, school strength directly affect resilience while the factors did not directly affect self-esteem. Third, family strength and school strength sequentially affected suicidal ideation with the mediating effect of resilience and self-esteem. This study confirmed that resilience and self-esteem were important mediating variables on the suicidal ideation of junior high and high school students. Although both self-esteem and resilience were protection factors for suicidal ideation, the findings of this study indicated that resilience should be a preceeding factor to increase the level of self-esteem.
