북한이탈주민 민주시민교육의 내용과 문제점 = The Contents and Issues of the Civic Education Concerning the North Korean refugees

The number of North Korean refugees entering into the South Korean society is rapidly increasing and the issues of support measures not meeting the level required for them to realistically settle into the our society is being raised frequently. Under such background, this research intends to grasp the contents and problems by approaching the adaptation methods of North Korean refugees in the South Korean society from the civic education perspective. This research first examines the definition of civic education and the status of the present civic education in South Korea. Conclusively, there is a desperate need for an organized civic education concerning the North Korean refugees in light of the purpose to socially integrate and harmonize them in the South Korean society and going further to prepare for reunification. Such education must go beyond the mere methods of adapting to capitalism but must be about sharing democratic values and accepting them as our own citizens and this entails the need for a mutual recognition procedure whereby the South Korean citizens recognize them as equal citizens.
