사회적 자본과 한국의 시민참여 = A Study on Social Capital and Civic Participation in South Korea

국문 초록 (Abstract)

정치학에서 사회적 자본(social capital)을 개념화시킨 퍼트남은 사회적 자본을 신뢰와 협력, 호혜성의 시민성 고양, 시민참여 활성화를 위한 주요한 이론 프레임으로 설명하고 있다. 이후 많은 학자들이 사회적 자본이 민주주의 공고화, 시민참여 거버넌스, 공동체 민주주의, 시민사회의 성숙 등의 선순환 효과에 주목하고 다양하게 연구하고 있다. 그런데 퍼트남은 사회적 자본이 전 세계적으로 쇠퇴하고 있으며, 이를 재형성하는 것이 중요하다고 지적했다. 이에 본 연구는 사회적 자본 논의에 천착해 한국의 사회적 자본의 특성과 그 성과에 대한 분석을 시도하고자 한다. 세부적으로 사회적 자본의 구성요소와 시민참여 간의 인과성은 존재하는지, 사회적 자본의 어떤 요소가 시민참여에 영향을 미치는지, 관습적(conventional), 비관습적(unconventional) 시민참여 유형에 따라 사회적 자본의 구성요소들은 어떤 차이를 보이는지에 대해 분석을 시도한다. 연구문제를 증명하기 위해 이메일 패널을 활용한 1,052명의 설문조사를 분석한 계량적인 연구방법론을 적용하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Putnam, who conceptualized social capital in the study of political science, explains social capital as a key theoretical frame for increasing civic participation, raising civic attitude based on trust, cooperation and reciprocity. Thereafter, many scholars have focused and conducted various studies on the virtuous cycle of social capital such as stabilization of democracy, governance based on civic participation, community democracy and the maturity of civil society. However, Putnam pointed out that social capital has been declining on a global level and that it was important to re-form the basis for social capital. As a result, this study attempts to analyze the characteristics of social capital in South Korea and the results thereof by inquiring into precedent discussions and studies on social capital. This study will attempt to analyze in further detail whether a causal relationship exists between components of social capital and civic participation, which component of social capital has an effect on civic participation, what distinctions can be made of each of the components of social capital based on the unconventional types of civic participation. In order to verify such issues, a quantitative study method was applied by analyzing surveys conducted for 1,052 participants through the use of an e-mail panel.
