인격 형성과 학업성취도 향상을 위한 학교문화예술교육 방안 = Rethinking culture and arts education in a school setting: in terms of both forming quality characters and academic achievements

This study closely examines that the relationship among arts education, character education, and academic achievements. The role of culture and arts education forms the competences for young people for life in the 21st century. Previous research on the potential of culture and arts education show that culture and arts education enhance the creativity of young people, form their characters, and facilitate their achievements. The study contains detailed information on the provision of culture and arts education, its learning aims and outcomes, and cross-curricular links between arts and other subjects in school settings. There are learning aims identified as arts subjects in school settings, and there are also learning objectives in the overall curriculum that can be linked to culture and arts education. Therefore, it is truly important to develop a life-long interest in the arts, by participating extracurricular artistic activities and retain that interest throughout their lives. Although arts education has a relatively low status in the school curriculum in Korea, this study suggests that we need to find cross-curricular links between the arts and other areas in the curriculum. Each art subjects might be grouped together in an integrated area within the curriculum. Furthermore, culture and arts education in a school setting should build the partnerships between the schools, everyday lives, community and arts; expanding information and knowledge about arts education beyond the school boundaries, providing specialized art resources, supporting artist-in-school programmes. Also, at the level of policy-making as well as constructing curriculum, there should be cooperation between Korean Government departments, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

지금까지 행해진 문화예술교육 관련 다양한 국내 정책들이 문화예술의 저변 확대와 다양한 콘텐츠를 제공해왔다는 점에서는 긍정적이나, 문화예술교육의 궁극적 목적으로서 학생들에게 가치 있고 행복한 삶을 위하여 타인에 대한 배려와 존중, 새로운 것을 창출할 수 있는 창조적이고 융합적인 능력 등 인성 함양과 밀접한 연계 속에서 이를 진행해왔는지는 반성할 필요가 있다. 본 연구는 문화예술교육의 국내외 사례를 통해 미래 사회를 살아갈 학생들이 갖추어야 하는 소양으로서 필요한 인성 및 학습 능력 함양에 문화예술교육이 미치는 영향을 살펴보고, 문화예술교육이 인성과 더불어 학업 능력의 향상에도 주요한 변수가 될 수 있음을 알아보았다. 또한 이를 기초로 인성 및 학습 능력 함양에 영향을 주는 학교문화예술교육 핵심 개념을 도출하고, 인격 형성과 학업 성취감을 향상시킬 수 있는 학교 문화예술교육 프로그램 유형을 제안하였다. 사회문화예술교육과는 달리 학교를 주체로 이루어지는 학교문화예술교육은 학교 자체적으로 운영되고 진행되는 프로그램 외에도, 지역 문화예술 단체와의 협업이 활성화될 수 있도록 지역의 예술·예술교육·문화예술·문화예술교육 관련 개인 및 단체에 의해 진행되고 운영되는 것 또한 포함된다. 따라서 다양한 형태의 운영이 가능하기 때문에, 이러한 학교문화예술교육을 달성하기 위한 방안을 ‘예술교과 중심 수업형’, ‘예술교과와 타 교과 통합 수업형’, ‘교육과정 재구성을 통한 융합(통합) 수업형’에 기초하여 제안하였다.
