캐나다 초등 사회과의 소수자 교육: 온타리오주를 중심으로 = Minority Education in Elementary School Social Studies in Canada: with Focus on Ontario

국문 초록 (Abstract)

탈근대적 사회가치의 확산과 다문화 인종의 유입에 따라 사회과교육에서는 새로운 시민성 교육의 측면에서 소수자 교육에 대한 필요성이 제기되었다. 이에 본 연구에서는 캐나다 온타리오 주의 사회과 교과서를 소수자 교육의 관점에서 분석하여 우리나라 사회과 교육에 주는 시사점을 찾아보았다. 분석 결과 우선 우리나라에서 행해지는 다문화교육을 보다 확산적으로 접근하여 소수자 교육의 다양한 내용 영역을 포함해야 한다는 점이 드러났다. 또한 교육과정 및 교과서 개발 과정 전반 및 내용 자체에 소수자 관련 내용을 보다 체계적으로 반영하여야 하며 다양한 영역의 소수자 교육을 실시해야 할 것이다. 그리고 2차 소수자화되는 상황이 벌어지지 않도록 많은 종류의 소수자를 교육 내용에 반영해야 할 것이며 삽화 및 사진을 적극 활용하여 소수자 교육의 효과를 극대화하여야 하겠다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

As Post-Modern values have become widespread and distinct races and ethnicities have come to Korea, the need for study of minority education in social studies emerged in the past few years in terms of citizenship education. Therefore, this study will help explore the examples of minority education in Ontario, Canada by analysing the textbooks of elementary social studies for better understanding and implementation. The result of analysis showed that it is necessary to broaden the area of multicultural education by including various minority groups and the other areas of minority education. Also, there should be sensitivity to prejudice and there should not be exclusion of minorities in developing the curriculum and the textbooks, creating lesson plans and evaluation. Furthermore, varied groups of minority need to be addressed when selecting contents since focus on only ethnic minority group may produce another marginalized group among minority groups. Finally the examined textbooks tell us illustrations and photos in textbooks can play an efficient role for success of minority education.
