디자인의 사회적 책임(DSR) 교육 프로그램 실천 연구 = A Study on Design Social Responsibility(DSR) Education and Practice

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

There is no doubt that design theory and practice has a tremendous influence on society, and consumer-driven is not always the primary considerations. The importance of harnessing design for societal as opposed to purely economic benefits is not a novel idea, and is often studied by the design community at large theoretically at least. In practice however, there is a dearth of practitioners who balance the economic realities of design projects versus the potential for societal benefits. In order to bridge the gap between theory and practice for the next generation of aspiring designers, the curricula must shift to focus on the application of socially beneficial design philosophies. In this research, design students worked with three welfare organizations as an real industry project which applied to the DSR education program in one of the undergraduate course, and examines the values and changes after they went through an overall process. As a result out of the program, the potential of various values for both education and social innovation were founded much more than expected. DSR education program will hopefully encourage them to learn the integration of diverse skills and abilities to make new possibilities engaging and using design to drive innovation in communities and cultures for creating positive outcomes.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

사회에 막대한 영향력이 있는 디자인이 상업적인 관점만이 아닌 사회의 윤리 및 책임의 중요성에 대해 인지한지 이미 오래 되었다. 이제 우리는 단순한 인지를 넘어 소수가 아닌 다수의 실무 디자이너들이 이윤추구의 활동과 사회적 책임 활동의 균형을 유지하면서 사회에 지속적으로 참여할 수 있는 현실적인 방안이 필요한 시점이다. 이에 앞서 예비 디자이너인 학생들이 디자인의 사회적 책임에 대한 인식 정립과 함께 앞으로 사회에 긍정적인 영향을 끼치는 리더로서 적극적인 참여를 기대하려면, 일시적인 이론 교육으로는 부족하고 실제 경험을 통한 교육 실천이 이루어져야 가능하다. 따라서 본 연구는 디자인 전공 학생들이 실제 주변 사회 소외계층들이 이용하고 있는 복지시설 세 기관들과 연계하여 직접 프로젝트의 과정 전반을 경험할 수 있도록 DSR 교육 프로그램을 기획하여 적용하였고, 진행 후의 변화와 가치에 대해 알아보았다. 그 결과 예상보다 디자이너로서 갖추어야할 능력 개발, 인식 정립과 사회 혁신 면에서 다양한 가치들을 발견하였고, DSR 교육의 중요성 또한 더욱 실감할 수 있었다. 앞으로 디자인 교육기관들의 이러한 교육 프로그램에 대한 연구와 실천이 확산되어 미래에 디자이너들의 지속적인 활동 또한 확산되는 사회의 긍정적인 디자인 문화가 형성되기를 기대해 본다.
