어머니 정서표현성의 요인탐색과 유아의 어휘력 발달의 관계

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 우리나라 어머니 정서표현성의 요인 구조를 살펴보고, 자녀의 어휘력 발 달과의 관계를 탐색하는 것이다. 우선 만 4세에서 5세 사이의 자녀(N=214)를 둔 어머니를 대상으로 정서표현성의 요인 구조를 탐색한 결과, 2요인이나 3요인보다 세분화된 4요인 구 조가 최적이었으며 군집분석 결과 세 유형의 군집이 도출되었다. 이어서 유아연령과 어머니 정서표현성 군집유형에 따른 유아의 어휘력 차이를 알아본 결과 연령의 주효과는 표현어휘와 수용어휘 모두에서, 정서표현성 군집의 주효과는 표현어휘에서만 나타났다. 마지막으로 유아 의 표현어휘는 유아의 연령이 높을수록, 어머니의 용서와 배려 같은 긍정적 정서표현이 많을 수록, 경멸 및 혐오와 같은 부정적 정서의 표현이 적을수록 높아지는 경향이 파악되었다. 본 연구결과에 따라 어머니의 정서표현성이 유아의 어휘력 발달에 영향을 줄 수 있다고 결론지 으며 지금까지의 연구나 실제에서 정서 부분이 간과되어 왔음을 지적하고 자녀의 발달에 미 칠 수 있는 어머니의 정서표현성에 대한 인식을 높일 것을 제안하였다. 자녀와 어머니가 다양 한 정서표현을 통하여 최적의 상호작용이 이루어지고 어휘력 발달을 증진시킬 수 있도록 지 원하는 부모교육의 필요성을 시사한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to examine the factor structure of Korean mothers' emotional expressiveness and its relationship with their child's vocabulary development. We first explored the factor structure of the emotional expressiveness from the participating mothers (N=214), having a child aged 4 to 5, and found a 4-factor solution fitted best compared to 2- or 3-factor model, and then identified 3 groups of mothers by a cluster analysis of their emotional expressiveness. The statistical tests of differences in the child's vocabulary scores in terms of the child's age and the cluster type of the maternal emotional expressiveness found the main effect of child age for both expressive vocabulary and receptive vocabulary and that of the maternal expressiveness cluster type significant for expressive vocabulary. Finally, it showed that the children's expressive vocabulary scores would be higher as the child's age increases and their mother expresses more positive emotions such as forgiveness/care and less negative emotions such as contempt/disgust. The results conclude that maternal expressiveness can contribute to the child's vocabulary development, and suggest that educators need to increase the awareness of the important role that maternal emotional expression plays in young children's development, which has been often neglected both in research and practice. Future work is needed to develop parent education programs that can support optimal interaction between young children and their mothers through a variety of emotional expression, and thus promote vocabulary development of the children.
