나바에츠(D. Narvaez) 도덕발달 이론의 특성과 도덕교육적 함의

국문 초록 (Abstract)

나바에츠에게 특별히 주목해야 하는 이유는 그녀가 도덕발달 및 도덕교육에 대한 콜버그 적 전통의 장점을 계승하면서도, 최근 뇌과학과 신경생물학, 진화론, 심리학, 인지과학 등으로 부터 산출된 도덕성에 관한 연구 성과를 효과적으로 활용하면서 학제적인 연구를 선도적으로 실행하고 있기 때문이다. 이와 같이 최근 도덕발달 및 도덕교육 영역에서 연구 경향과 양상 의 변화를 주도하고 있는 학자인 나바에츠의 연구물을 통해 도덕교육 연구 및 실천의 개선 방향을 모색해 보는 작업은 매우 의미 있는 일이 될 것이다. 이런 이유에서 본 논문은 2000 년대 이후 도덕발달 및 도덕교육 영역에서 발표된 나바에츠의 다양하고 풍부한 저작들을 활 용하면서 그녀의 학제적 연구 기획의 산물들을 체계적으로 종합하고 이를 바탕으로 도덕교육 연구 및 실천에 주는 시사점을 도출해 보고자 한다.

There is some special reason we should be concerned about and take considerable note of Darcia Narvaez's theory of moral functioning and development. The reason is because of her outstanding scholarly efforts to integrate the strengths of Kohlberg's theory of moral development with outcomes of several scholar's influential works in the currently emerging fields of neuroscience and neurobiology, evolution theories, psychology, and cognitive science, with the aid of techniques such as fMRI. I believe that it is meaningful and important to explore implications for moral development research and practice, from Narvaez's works in moral psychology on a representative selection of essays published over roughly the last decade. For the reason, in this article I offers an overview of Darcia Narvaez's theory of moral functioning and development, and then, investigate implications for moral education research and practice.
