학사경고 여대생의 학업성취 실패 및 지속요인에 대한 탐색적 연구 -포커스 그룹 인터뷰를 중심으로 = An Exploration Study of the Factors for Understanding Academic Achievement Failure and Academic Persistence on Academy Probation: Focus Group Interviews among Female University Students

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This focus group study analyzed the experience of university life experiences among female college undergraduate students who had the experience of academic probation at a 4-year private university in Seoul. We explored the factors for academic probation and academic persistence after being placed on academic probation. In addition, we examined factors that individual faculty, staff, and students can do to promote the college adjustment of freshman undergraduates. Results indicated that (a) two factors(college environmental factors and personal factors) contributed to academic probation. First, college environmental factors included students` unmet expectations regarding college and their study, and maladjustment to new environment. Second, personal factors included failure to actively gather academic information, lack of supportive social network, self-centered perspective taking, and ineffective self-regulation; (b) factors associated with academic persistence were classified into two domains: external factors and internal factors. The external factors included social support, and the internal factors consisted of acceptance for responsibility for life, enhancing anxieties for future and recognition of reality, and adjustment to learning styles in college. Limitations of the current study and implications for future research are provided.
