주성분 분석과 대응일치분석을 통한 4년제 대학졸업예정자들의 대학생 학습 경험 탐색 연구 = An Exploratory Study on College Experience of the Korean Graduates through Principal Component Analysis and Correspondence Analysis

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 한국교육고용패널조사(KEEP) 데이터를 활용하여 국내 4년제 대학 졸업(예정)자들의 대학생 학습 경험(college experience)의 하위 요소를 고찰하고, 이 하위 요소들이 대학의 기관적 특징, 즉 소재지나 설립주체 등과 어느 정도의 연관관계를 맺고 있는지를 탐색하여 대학생 학습 경험 조사도구개발을 위한 예비적 지식과 활용의 예를 제시하는 것을 주목적으로 삼았다. KEEP 설문지에 수록된 관련 문항 20개에 대해 주성분분석(principal component analysis)을 실시한 결과 4개의 요인들이 추출되었고 이를 각각 (1) 강의의 우수성(good teaching), (2) 학생 지원(student support), (3) 학습 시설 및 자원(learning resources), (4) 학습 공동체(learning community) 등으로 명명하였다. 이어 각 요인으로 묶인 변수들의 평균을 구하고 요인별 평균을 기준으로 하여 이를 다시 가변수로 변환시킨 다음, 응답자가 소속된 기관의 특징을 나타내는 명목변수와 대응일치분석(correspondence analysis)을 실시하여 양자 간의 연관성을 보다 가시적인 방법으로 나타내었다. 대응일치분석 결과 수도권 국사립대학들은 졸업(예정)자들로부터 강의의 우수성 면에서 높은 평가를 받았고 지방 사립대들은 학생 지원 면에서 우수한 평가를 받았다. 학습 경험의 4개 하위 요소 중 특히 학습 공동체에 대한 평가는 지역 및 설립주체로 나눈 기관 범주 전체에 걸쳐 낮은 수준을 나타냈다. 전반적으로 사립대학들의 재학생들이 국공립대학 재학생들에 비해 학습 경험을 긍정적으로 평가하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 치열한 학생 유치 경쟁을 겪고 있는 사립대들이 국공립대에 비해 학생들의 학습 경험 증진을 위해 적극적으로 나서고 있는 상황이 학생들의 학습 경험 평가에 반영된 것으로 해석되었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this paper is to explore factors consisting of college graduates' evaluation on their college experiences and the potential association they might share with institutional characteristics of their schools such as the geographical location and governance entity. The principal component analysis was conducted to 6th and 7th year data of Korean Education and Employment Panel (high school students cohort) and four factors of college experience were extracted: Good teaching, student support, learning community, and learning resources. The average of the item categorized to each factor was converted into dummy variable in order to be put into the correspondence analysis which presented a 2 dimensional image map of the association between college experience and institutional characteristics. According to the results of the correspondence analysis each factor of college experiences showed rather a clear difference in the association with the institutional characteristics of colleges and universities. In general, private universities were more closely located from the 4 factors than public universities implying that the former have been creating better images of college experience in students' mind than the latter. In other words, students' evaluation on their college experiences is to be interpreted to reflect their institution's different need or eagerness to strengthen their competitive edge in market.
