유아기 놀이행동에 있어서의 정서표현에 관한 연구 = An Exploratory Study of Emotional Expression in Children's Play

국문 초록 (Abstract)

긍정적 정서는 놀이를 규정하는 중요한 요소로서 거론되고 있으나 놀이에 있어서의 정서적 특징을 밝히는 연구는 제한적으로 이루어져 왔다. 본고는 놀이 행동과 정서 표현이 관계를 규명하기 위하여 3∼5세 아동의 자연적 상황에서 관찰되는 놀이행동에서의 정서 표현의 종류, 범위, 특징을 탐색하였다. 그 결과, 놀이 행동 시의 정서는 비놀이 행동 시보다 다양하게 표현된다는 것과 흥미와 기쁨이 지배적인 정서로 표현된다는 특징을 찾을 수 있었다. 본 연구결과는 이전의 연구결과와 관련 속에서 그 의미가 논의되었으며, 연구의 한계와 더불어 현장의 교사들에게의 시사점을 제시하였다

Research about emotional expressions during children's play is rare although positive emotions have long been considered to be a critical feature of play definitions. In order to explore the relationship between play behaviors and emotional expressions, this study empirically examines the range and prevalence of emotions expressed by 3-, 4-, and 5-year-old children in a naturalistic free-play setting. Facial expressions and the play behaviors of 30 subjects were videotaped and analyzed using the AFFEX system and a modified play behavior observation scale based on the Parten/Piaget scale. The data showed that in the prevalence of emotional expressions interest was the most dominant emotional expression in both play and nonplay. In play, interest and joy expression were predominant, while the other emotions were rarely expressed. In nonplay, only interest expression was predominant, and negative emotions were observed more than in play situations. The range of emotional expressions was wider in play (9 emotions) than in nonplay (6 emotions). The limitations of this study are discussed in terms of research method and perspectives on play. Implications for teachers were described in relation with the promotion of positive emotional expression through a play context which encourages children's emotional development.
