유아 수교육 내용 및 방법에 관한 문화 심리학적 고찰 = A Study of Content and Method Used in Number Instruction for Young Children from a Cultural Psychology Perspective

국문 초록 (Abstract)

문화심리학적 관점에서 볼 때, 수학은 생활세계에 뿌리를 둔, 의사소통의 힘을 지닌 가치있는 과정이며, 유아들은 태어나면서부터 문화에 기초한 공유된 수경험을 통해 광범위한 수학적 능력을 지닌 존재이다. 본 논문은 이런 관점에서 현재의 유아 수교육의 내용과 방법에 간과할 수 없는 문제가 있음을 지적하고 바람직한 수교육의 내용과 방법에 대하여 살펴 보았다. 먼저 수교육 내용으로 중시되는 수이전활동의 문제를 지적하고 이것이 유아 수교육에서 차지해온 위치에 대한 재평가를 촉구한 반면, 수교육 내용으로 그동안 상대적으로 경시되거나 잘못된 방식으로 다루어져 온 수세기와 수조작 및 수 상징이 지닌 가치를 살펴보고 이에 적절한 교육방법을 논의하였다.

From the perspective of cultural psychology, mathematical concepts are seen as rooted in the cultural contexts of society, and children interact with them from birth, amassing informal knowledge of math concepts through their daily life experiences. From this perspective, the prevailing math instruction in our schools would appear to be highly problematic. This study examines current practices and urges a revaluation of the prenumber activities which have long been considered as prerequisite for number instruction. The study also looks at the value and desirability of alternative math instruction methods in counting, number operation and math symbols, some of which have been long neglected or misunderstood.
