    This study analyzes the legislative system and policy for school violence prevention between U.S. and Korea and suggests policy implications to Korean situation. As a result of study, there are similarities in school violence prevention approach between two countries in spite of differences in societal, cultural and historical background about school and school violence. However, in terms of legislative system, the level of centralization is different. Second, in U.S. federal government focused on financial support and technical assistance whereas Korea uses regulation for policy tools. Third, in U.S. many type of school violence programs were developed and implemented across the states. The recommendations for Korean efforts to reduce school violence are as follows. First, by specifying or grouping the types of school violence, the differentiated response to the school violence should be tried. Second, the case of U.S. suggests systemized data reporting and gathering system and uses data for evaluating the programs and diffusion of effective programs. Finally, comprehensive approaches and research supports are needed to prevent school violence.
