북한문제 인식의 문제점과 새로운 접근의 필요성 = Rethinking South Korea`s Perception of the North Korean Issue: In Search of a New Approach

South Korea`s perception of the North Korean issue has been characterized as the so-called South-South conflict between the conservative and the progressive in domestic politics. Such a dichotomous understanding of North Korea has much to do with the Cold War history of the Korean peninsula. It is, however, impossible to understand the North Korean issues including nuclear crisis, regime insecurity, unification of the Korean peninsula, etc. The North Korean issue has been influenced in the interactive levels of analysis among the global politics, the East Asian regionalism, and the Korean peninsula. Thus, South Korea`s understanding and policy toward North Korea should be approached, combining both the domestic and international considerations. In this vein, this paper applies several theories of international relations to the North Korean issue and tries to get some new understanding of North Korea.
