The purpose of this study is to understand the divorced women`s experiences as a mother from women`s perspective. This study used the qualitative method, in-depth qualitative data were gathered from seven mothers. Major findings of this study were as follows. Maternal identity worked as a symbol for divorced mothers. They used a dichotomy of maternal identity vs. wife identity as a strategy. Maternal identity means I-centered life, emancipatory possibility and wife identity means Other-centered life, patriarchal oppression. But this dichotomy based on socio-cultural demand set limit to their life. Midlife divorced mothers questioned themselves `if I`m neither a wife nor a mother, who am I?` Divorced mothers wanted various source if self identity other than the motherhood.
