현대 사회의 위험과 위험 관리: 위험의 사회적 구성에 대한 이론적 논의를 중심으로 = Risk and Risk Management in Modern Society: Theoretical Discussion on the Social Construction of Risk

`Risk` and `safety` are main social issues in modern society. Thus modern society is also called `risk society`. Risk approach is divided into two ways: one is `risk-objectivism` emphasizing objective reality of risk, and the other is `risk-constructivism` emphasizing subjective perception of risk. This paper deals risk in the perspective of risk-constructivism, which is interested in how risk is constructed in society. I seek why subjective perception of social risk is important in modern society, and variables which have influence on the social construction of risk. This analysis is based on the existing psychological and socio-cultural studies to concretize variables which have influence on risk, and to suggest integrative theoretical framework for the conception of risk. I also introduce `risk communication` as one of fields of risk management to deal with risk and subjective perception appropriately. Eventually, social risk of modern society is constructed socially by the characteristics of the risk itself, circumstance of the risk occurrence, socio-cultural context, and the value of social group or individual. Thus, for the management of risk of modern society, `risk communication` strategy considering in a balanced way the variables, which have influence on the social construction of risk, is needed.
