경찰관 직무스트레스 수준과 영향요인 = The Level and Influencing Factors of Police Officers' Job Stress

국문 초록 (Abstract)

경찰관은 수행하는 업무와 조직구조 상의 특성으로 인해 많은 직무스트레스를 경험한다. 경찰관들의 과도한 스트레스는 개인적으로는 각종 질병과 알콜중독 등 바람직하지 못한 행태를 유발하고, 조직적으로는 직무만족과 조직몰입을 감소시켜 종국적으로는 경찰조직의 목표인 범죄에의 효과적인 대처를 어렵게 하고, 사회적으로는 자신들이 보호해야할 시민들을 무시하고 적대시하게 만든다. 직무스트레스의 이러한 부정적인 영향 때문에 선진국에서는 경찰관들을 대상으로 하는 스트레스 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있으나 우리나라에서는 아직 미미한 수준에 그치고 있다. 본 연구는 부산시에 근무하는 경찰관 314명을 대상으로 실시한 설문조사 자료를 바탕으로 경찰관들의 직무스트레스 수준을 측정하고, 이를 유발하는 직무환경적 요인들을 추출하였다. 분석결과 경찰관들의 직무스트레스 수준은 상당한 정도에 이르고 있으며, 업무부담, 역할모호성, 권위주의, 성차별 등이 직무스트레스에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 반면, 대인관계, 조직지원, 인사관리적정성 등이 부(-)의 영향을 미치고 있음을 발견하였다. 본 연구는 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 직무스트레스를 효과적으로 관리할 수 있는 몇 가지 정책방안을 제시하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Police officers are experiencing job stress because of unique nature of their jobs and hierarchial organizational structure. Excessive job stress is known to result in various disease and deviant behaviors including alcohol addiction to police officers, decrease organizational effectiveness by reducing levels of job satisfaction and organizational commitment, and despise civilians who are supposed to be served by police officer themselves. Because of these harmful effects of police job stress, much research on police stress has been done in advanced countries. However, in Korea, the research on police job stress is still in the beginning stage. By using data collected through conducting surveys on 314 police officers serving Busan Mertropolitan City, this study measured the level of job stress and examined what factors contribute to job stress. The results of analyses show that police officers are experiencing a considerable level of job stress and several factors including job -overload, job ambiguity, authoritarianism, and discrimination by sex contribute to police officers' job stress.
