전통연희의 현대적 의의 = Modem Meanings of Traditional Performing Arts

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Traditional performing arts in Korea include forms of Baekhui-Japgi(literally, all sorts of entertainment and miscellaneous arts and crafts) and forms of drama such as mask dramas, pansori(a traditional Korean style of narrative song, in which a single performer is accompanied by a drummer), chang-geuk(Korean classical operas), and puppet plays. Overall they refer to the profit-making performances played for the audience. Traditional performing arts can be divided as follows; 1) acrobatic feats and stunts, 2) magic arts, 3) plays in animal disguises, 4) animal stunts, 5) farce or comedy, 6) song and dance performances, 7) musical performances, 8) puppet plays, 9) mask dramas, 10) pansori and chang-geuk, 11) performances in religious ceremonies Pioneering genres that have adapted the traditional performing arts so far are madang-geuk (dramas played on ground) and folk dramas that started in the 1980`s. Professional theatrical troupes have also tried to make dramas based on the traditional performing arts such as mask dramas, pansori, puppet plays and so on. The theatrical troupe Minye, led by producer Heo Gyu from 1973, and Michu, led by Son Jin-Chaek, are representative. Samul-nori (an ensemble of the four farmer`s percussion instruments) led by Kim Duk-Su was a great success through adaptation of traditional farmers` musical instruments. Recently, Korean national opera troupe, the theatrical troupe Mokwha, the performance troupe Geori-pae, the folk arts troupe Ugeumchi and other troupes in various fields are creating new performing arts using the traditional performing arts. The most important goals now are enhancing the level of performances by specialization of Japgi (miscellaneous arts and crafts), and creating a high-level and amusing Koreanized musical. Traditional performing arts are the cultural contents, providing resources for the Koreanization of modem performing arts and expanding Korean waves.
