This study is originated from the problem awareness that the Teacher Evaluation for Professional Development, which is being operated in the model school, is standardized to all age groups without considering teachers` life span. Since the areas required to teachers in terms of expertise may be different according to the teacher`s life span, the contents of evaluation need to be different accordingly. Thus, this study aims to analyze the correlation between teachers` life span stages and their tasks and developments of their expertise based on documentations regarding teachers` life span stages and expertise in order to take teachers` life span stages into consideration for teacher evaluation. As a result of the study, it turned out that there should be evaluation items such as enhancement of expertise for the early stage, training excellent teachers for the developmental and mature stages, and career deciding for the full maturity stage. As to methodology as well, it turned out that existing methods utilizing check-list met only the basic requirements, and that various evaluation methods that need to be developed. It is expected that this study will be helpful for improvement of teacher expertise, school quality, and competitiveness as the teacher evaluation system in consideration of teacher life span development is firmly established. It is required to investigate teacher life span stages in an organizational, systematical point of view, as well as factors that may hinder the enhancement of expertise.
