The wooden Amitabha statue in Jawoonsa temple located in Gwangju city is from the Goryeo dynasty, and the records between 1388 and 1611 prove that the relics inside the statue are from the late Goryeo dynasty to the mid Joseon dynasty. However the 57 fabrics are mixed without any division of history, and ramie and cotton fabrics did not change much, therefore it is difficult to distinguish between those from the Goryeo dynasty and the Joseon dynasty. Nevertheless, even if 1611 is to be considered the most recent year, the time difference of around 230 years makes the relics of Jawoon temple historically and traditionally important, as well as being academically invaluable. Considering there are only a few fabrics from the Goryeo dynasty including the Diamond Sutra, the Saddharma Pundarika Sutra and book cover fabric, these artifacts are important data. The relics are in relatively good condition and the original colors remain, which provides information on the dye and traditional colors from then. The fabrics examined are ramie, silk and cotton. There are 12 ramies. As for silk there are tabby, spun silk, thin tabby, twill damask, satin without pattern and satin damask. Two cotton were examined. The spun silk were woven with filament yarn as warp and spun yarn for weft. Fabrics with patterns are mostly pre dyed fabrics. There are 23 artifacts which still has the selvage left. The trimming and finishing ways from the day can be studied from starched cloths that were finely beated and trimmed starched cloths. As for sewing techniques broadstitch, backstitch, tacking and hemming were used.
