다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Having examine the shape of lotus flower in Koguryo’s roof-end tiles, we find that the shape of lotus on the roof-end tile represent the lotus bud, the half-opened lotus, and the lotus flower in perspective, not the format of lotus petal. Of them, the lotus bud design had been used generally throughout the period of Koguryo, the half-opened lotus and the lotus flower in perspective had been used in the roof-end tiles with the compound lotus design found in Pyongyang.
Being expressed by the form of inside cross section of the lotus bud, the lotus flower in perspective in relief can be included in the category of the lotus bud. Therefore, if we examine the shape of lotus flower in roof-end tiles with lotus design from a wide viewpoint, every lotus flower is the side looking bud type.
In such point, we can say that the external form of the lotus bud is an important form element. And the form appeared to the ginkgo net type and the boat type.
The roof-end tile with lotus design with border line is divided according to whether or not there is a connection between a dividing line and a border line. The Jian type without the connection and the Pyongyang type with the connection form the regional group each. Since research revealed that the boat type was related with Pyongyang, the boat type could be seen as a cultural element of Pyongyang.
The rising lines were represented at the inside of the lotus bud, and the lines had changes in style. The form of rising lines is generally the shape with three lines. And these three lines were expressed by the Y-shaped pattern, by the form which right and left side lines were moved to outside, and the form which rising lines changed to edge line. Like this, the rising lines had moved gradually outside.
It is noteworthy that the third form - the form which rising lines turned to edge line - is found only in the boat type, not in the ginkgo net type. From these facts we can derive a conclusion: the ginkgo net type precede the boat type.
