남북전쟁 이후 미국의 사회적 기독교운동 = The Social Christianity Movements in America after the Civil War

In the second half of the 19th century the social upheaval times precipitated the Christianity in America into being social problem. To the Challenge of the industrial society some awoken Theologian and intellectual person reflected the teaching Jesus and the message of the Christian salvation. But the exchanged society needed more progressive ideas and with a helping social science the Theologian studied the relation between the Christianity and the social problems.
Such a progressive Christian made an analysis of the social problems and brought forth alternatives, it was that the social Christianity and the Social Gospel. The social Gospel movement criticized the traditional Christianity and on the basis of the liberal Theology and the Social Philosophy it defended the attack of the political, economical and labor leader, socialist and reformer. But the Social Gospeler endeavored to re-form for the justice in whole society. The early Social Gospeler dis-avowed the political Socialism, but admitted the opportunity of the in-dividual and the social equality. They asserted not a revolution, bur a re-form and devised the various ways.
This article examined of the relation between the labor movements and the church, and then analyzed the Theology of the Social Gospel. Thirdly the Character and thought of the pioneer in the social Christian movements were studied. Fourth gave a description of the position of the denomination to the social Gospel movements. Finely this surveyed the Christian Commonwealth Colony, which was peculiar in the American Commonwealth history.
The largest achievement of this movement during the last period of the 19th century was the organization of the ‘Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America.’ This made a statement for the “The Social Creed of the Churches.”
