도덕적 성찰과 실천에 있어서 교회의 역할 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 한국교회의 도덕적 위기상황이 기독교사회윤리학적 사고가 결여된 폐쇄적 공동체적 사고, 자기 비판력의 상실, 신앙의 영역과 이성의 영역의 긴장관계를 쉽게 포기한 것으로부터 생겨난 것으로 분석한다. 이러한 문제의식 가운데서, 교회가 구성원들의 도덕적 삶에 있어서 어떠한 역할을 감당할 수 있을지 가장 근원적인 질문을 던진다. 래리 라스무센은 도덕적 성찰과 실천의 영역에 있어서, 교회가 감당하는 역할을 크게 네 가지로 설명한다. 1) 도덕적 정체성을 형성하는 장, 2) 전통의 담지자로서 전통의 자기비판과 재정립, 3) 도덕적 숙고와 성찰, 4) 도덕적 행동, 수행적 실천의 장을 지적한다. 이러한 네 가지 역할은 교회가 그 본질상 이미 가지고 있는 기능이며, 이것이 어떻게 통합적으로 작용할 수 있을지 질문해야 한다. 도덕적 삶에 있어서 교회의 역할들을 하나로 묶어 줄 패러다임으로 본 논문은 ‘생태학적 교회’를 모델로 생각해 보았다. 생태학적 교회는 사회윤리학적 특징들과 연관성을 가질 수 있다. 생태학적 교회는 1) 공동선과 삶의 질에 관심하며, 2) 성례주의적 세계이해를 바탕으로 새로운 관계성을 이루어갈 수 있으며, 3) 도덕적 숙고의 명확한 기준으로서 생명을 살리는 일을 제시하고, 4) 모든 존재의 재생능력과 자기조절능력을 긍정함으로써 모든 존재의 자율적 도덕적 수행능력을 긍정할 수 있다. 이러한 생태학적 교회를 한국교회의 도덕적 삶의 사회적 현실 가운데서 제시하는 것은 생태학적 교회 모델이 타자를 배려하고 사랑하는 실천을 통해 새로운 관계성을 형성해 보고자 함이다. 또한, 그러한 실천 가운데서 경험되어지는 자기초월의 생명력을 도덕적 위기 가운데 놓인 한국교회에 제시할 수 있을 것이기 때문이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In the article, I start from the point that the moral crisis of Korean churches results from their lack of the perspectives of Christian social ethics which has made Korean churches lose self-critical power and easily give up the constructive tension between the realm of faith and of reason. With this analysis, it is important to ask what the critical roles of the church are in the moral universe. Larry L. Rasmussen points out these roles like this: 1) forming moral identity, 2) bearing traditions in the community, 3) moral deliberation (reflection and interpretation), and 4) moral action (performative practice). Theses four roles are already rooted in the church. How can the church as a faith community be an actively integrated field where these four roles well work together? Which paradigm could make strong connections among these? The article suggests a model of ecological church which could re-relate the current roles of the churches in the moral world. A model of ecological church is closely related to the components of Christian social ethics in the following: 1) focusing on the common good and the quality of life in the community, 2) having a sacramental world-view that help to re/make new relations in the community, 3) pointing to a life-sharing work as a normative criterion in the moral deliberation, and 4) admitting and celebrating the power of regeneration and self-organization which implies that all beings have autonomous active moral agency. The reason why the article suggests to Korean churches a model of ecological church in the current harsh reality of Korean churches is that this model could provide us with an opportunity to re-relate Korean churches to others, that is, the despised and the oppressed by considering and caring others. In the very action and practice of loving others, Korean churches in the moral universe could experience a sense of self-transcendence as a revitalizing power to recover their moral sensitivity and action in their lives.
