The establishment of the ISO 26000 on social responsibility is near at hand. The contents of the committee draft of the ISO 26000 consist of the scope, terms and definitions, understanding social responsibility, principles of social responsibility, recognizing social responsibility and engaging stakeholders, guidance on social responsibility core subjects, guidance on integrating social respon sibility throughout an organization, annex on voluntary initiative relating to social responsibility.
The fundamental principles including the accountability, transparency, ethical behavior etc. will be not only the good guidance on all of the actions and decisions of the organizations, but also the criteria of the reviewing the implementation of the core subjects and its issues. And the core subjects including organizational governance, human rights, the environment, fair operating practices, consumer issues, and the community involvement and development are of great significance in performing the social responsibility of the organizations and the main issues of the subjects mentioned above have practical meaning in implementation.
This International Standard provides good guidance on the underlying principles of social responsibility, the core subjects and issues pertaining to social responsibility and on ways to integrate socially responsible behavior into existing organizational strategies, systems, practices and processes. Although this Standard is for voluntary use and is not intended or appropriate for certification purposes or regulatory or contractual use, every organization is encouraged to become more socially responsible by using this Standard.
