사회과 다문화교육의 현황과 과제 = Current Status of Multicultural Education in Korean Social Studies

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to address the current status and future directions of multicultural education in Korean social studies, in terms of curriculum, teaching methods, and teacher education programs. First, compared to the 7th national social studies curriculum, the 2009 revised national curriculum incorporated more content areas regarding cultural diversity, diverse regions, and multicultural phenomena, and textbooks need to be written accordingly. Second, developing teaching and learning methods for multicultural classrooms is in the very beginning stage. Diverse teaching methods and instructional strategies should be developed. Third, there are few multicultural teacher education programs for the secondary education, while elementary teacher training programs have recently built diverse programs. More preservice and inservice programs are needed for preparing teachers for the 21st century Korean social studies education.
