한중 한자어 비교사전 구축을 위한 초보적 고찰 = A Study on Compiling a Chinese and Sino-Korean Dictionary

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

There are many Sino-Korean words in Korean vocabulary. In addition, the use of Sino-Korean words is increasing especially in terms of technical terms and expressions of abstract concepts because of continuous exchange between Korean and China. Sino-Korean words and Chinese characters have had common points and differences since Korea started to use loan words from Chinese due to the historic change and development of the two languages. This can be advantageous for Koreans to learn Chinese and for Chinese people to learn Koran but it could be disadvantageous for both learners. Due to the increasing use of Sino-Korean words, there have been more studies on the Sino-Korean words. However, a few results of the studies have been reflected in the dictionaries of Sino-Korean words. The purpose of this study is to reflect characteristics of differences and common points of Sino-Korean words and equivalent Chinese vocabulary after comparing them. When it comes to compiling a Sino-Korean dictionary, it is the most important to thoroughly present syntactic characteristics of equivalent words for helping learners know how to use them. This is in line with basic principles of compiling an educational dictionary that important items should be given priority. Therefore, this study wants to come up with ways to compile a Sino-Korean dictionary for Chinese and Korean learners to overcome limits in their learning, repeating errors and making the most of their education. In addition, hopefully this study could be helpful for Korean or Chinese teachers, Korean or Chinese learners and Korean-Chinese and Chinese-Korean translators.
