어머니의 아동기 경험이 자녀 양육태도에 미치는 영향에 대한 고찰 = A study on how a mother’s parenting behaviors is affected by her childhood experience

This study has examined mothers with children in their early childhood to discover the relationship of a mother’s childhood experience and her parenting behaviors. The questionnaire method was used to learn about the mothers’ experiences in their childhood and their views on parenting methods. For further analysis, the mothers were interviewed allowing a deeper and more specific understanding of their perspective. The analysis of the correlation between the participants’ childhood experiences and her parenting behaviors resulted in the following: mothers with affirming parents who encouraged their child’s independence showed a significant positive correlation with parenting behaviors that express warmth towards their own children and a negative correlation with rejection-authority parenting behaviors. As a result, the study indicates that the mother’s childhood experience significantly affects her parenting behavior. Moreover, the study demonstrates that the methods of a mother’s own upbringing is transferred and embedded in her approach to raising children. The study proposes an active parent education for emotionally wounded mothers who have internalized negative parenting behaviors due to suffering from misguided parenting methods in their childhood.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 유아기 자녀를 둔 어머니의 아동기 경험과 양육태도의 관계를 살펴보았다. 어머니의 아동기 경험과 자신의 양육태도에 대한 의견을 알아보기 위해 설문지방식을 사용하였고 보다 구체적인 의견을 알아보기 위해 어머니들과 면접을 실시하였다. 연구대상자의 아동기 경험과 자녀양육태도간의 상관관계를 분석한 결과를 보면, 어린 시절 부모의 수용적이고 독립성을 조장하는 아동기 경험은 본인의 자녀에 대한 온정적 양육태도와 정적인 상관관계를 보였으며, 거부․권위적 양육태도와는 부적인 상관관계를 보였다. 본 연구 결과 어머니의 아동기 경험과 자녀 양육행동 간에 깊은 관련성이 있고, 어머니의 아동기 양육경험이 본인 자녀의 양육태도로 세대를 통해 전이되는 것을 보여주고 있다. 본 연구에서는 어린 시절 부모의 잘못된 양육방식으로 인해 깊이 상처받고 동시에 부정적인 양육태도가 내면화된 어머니들을 위해 보다 적극적인 부모교육 프로그램이 필요하다고 제언하고 있다.
