Nowadays, it is indispensable in our society that learners are required to resolve the contradictory issues and conflicts not by the lopsidedly prejudiced and slanted ways but by the mutually acceptable and beneficial ones, possessing the capabilities of balanced critical thinking. This study is based on the criticism about the current social conflicts and antagonism. From the point of view, the researchers in this study take initiative to verify the effects of a systematic and practical instructional model for teaching the academic controversies suitable for information era in a way that overcomes the existing teaching model in pursuit of one-sided and piecemeal approach. To put it specifically, the model integrates reciprocally the Pro-con cooperative model of Johnson & Johnson in terms of teaching the balanced critical thinking skills with the Problem-based learning with internet from the perspective of constructively providing a variety of data and information to the students. The result indicates that the experimental group outperforms the control group in terms of balanced critical thinking skill just after finishing 12-hour learning activities. In addition, the learners who are believed to be low-level achievers in the treatment group show significant difference in higher critical thinking capabilities than those in the control group. On the consequences, the instructional model of academic controversies in problem-based learning utilizing internet could increase the possibilities to be an successful intervention for teaching balanced critical thinking skill with the purpose of overcoming hatred and contradictions.
