웹기반 학습환경 설계전략으로서 공동체접근 탐색 -공동체기반 학습환경설계에 관한 소고 = Community Approach as a Design Strategy of Web-based Learning Environment: A Study on Community-Based Learning Environment

The purpose of this study was to explore the utility of community approach in designing a web-based learning environment. The term ``Community-Based Learning Environment`` was proposed to point out alternative learning environments that adopt the community approach as a design strategy. This study investigated three research questions: 1) what are common features and differences among Learning Communities, Communities of Practice, Knowledge-Building Communities? 2) what are the definition and characteristics of Community-Based Learning Environment? 3) what are the design issues and guidelines emerged from relevant researches in creating learning environments adopting the community approach, and then what is a systematic design/development model of Community-Based Learning Environment? The analysis of each research question was based on a critical review of literature regarding learning environments based on the community approach, including Learning Communities, Communities of Practice, Knowledge-Building Communities. Similarities and differences of the three approaches were reported. Several design issues of Community-Based Learning Environment were identified as follows: formulating community identity, nurturing learning culture, promoting the ownership of members, facilitating interactive relationships among members, designing knowledge building/ sharing/evaluating/storing activities, constructing or selecting a technological infrastructure of community, designing learner supports. Finally, a conceptual model to guide the development of Community-Based Learning Environment was suggested. The model is characterized by a circulating cycle of the steps of design, development, implementation, and evaluation in accordance with the stage of community development.
